Osaga is officially back. Born in Eugene, Oregon, TrackTown USA, Osaga was one of the most innovative running brands of the 1970s, standing shoulder-to-shoulder with the giants by focusing on biomechanics, comfort, and real performance. Founded by Eugene legend Bill Combs, Osaga helped shape the running culture around Hayward Field and even donated the cutting-edge electronic scoreboard that became a symbol of the city’s track heritage.

Today, the family is reviving the brand with two historically faithful reissues: the Osaga 80 (originally the Moscow 80) and the KT-26. These aren’t quick throwback remakes - they’re rebuilt using the original design philosophy, with upgraded materials for modern comfort.

The Osaga 80 (“Evergreen”) stays true to its 1979 Runner’s World-praised cushioning, now featuring premium suede/leather/mesh, Aegis® comfort lining, a molded PU footbed, and that classic 70s running-flat silhouette.

The KT-26, famous for its experimental Cantilever Principle, returns with re-engineered shock dispersion, a rigid heel counter, breathable nylon/mesh upper, and durable multi-stud outsole. A true ahead-of-its-time design is now wearable again.

Osaga’s revival isn’t about nostalgia. It’s about restoring a piece of American running history and honoring the ingenuity that defined the brand’s first chapter. For the full deep-dive story, photos, ads, and vintage context, read the long version now live on TheDeffest.com.

The Untold Story of Osaga - TrackTown USA’s Forgotten Running Brand 🟡🟢

Before the Oregon running boom went global, another homegrown brand was quietly shaping the culture: Osaga, founded in Eugene by Bill Combs, a local shoe retailer with a big vision for making his city the true capital of American running.

Born in the shadow of Hayward Field in the mid-1970s, Osaga blended community, biomechanics, and athlete-first design. From its early days working with UO runners to its donation of a cutting-edge scoreboard to Hayward Field, the brand wasn’t just making shoes - it was building the identity of TrackTown USA.

Osaga’s designs pushed boundaries. Their KT-26 introduced the Cantilever Principle decades before “energy return” became a buzzword, while models like the Moscow 80 (now reissued as the Osaga 80) delivered cushioning and efficiency that earned real praise in their era. After the brand was sold and eventually shuttered, Osaga unexpectedly resurfaced as a cult classic - especially in Japan, where collectors hunt down surviving pairs like rare artifacts of American running history.

Now, the next generation of the Combs family has revived the brand, bringing back the KT-26 and Osaga 80 as faithful, wearable reissues that honor the originals in both spirit and construction.

If you love sneaker history, this one matters - and there’s a longer version of the full Osaga story now up on TheDeffest.com.

For Black Friday, you can shop the new Osaga 80 & KT-26 using the link in bio, and new customers get an extra 10% off with code DEFFEST.

Shout-out to founder Bill Combs for creating one of the most fascinating forgotten chapters in running-shoe history. .us
