As we are heading into the fall and winter season it is time to think ahead and prepare your home for the colder weather.

Here are some things to consider when getting your RV winter ready:

🔧 Insulation & Heat Retention
• Skirting: Install RV skirting around the base of your rig to block wind and trap heat underneath.
• Windows & Doors:
• Use shrink-wrap plastic window film or Reflectix to insulate.
• Add heavy thermal curtains or blankets at night.
• Seal gaps with weatherstripping or caulk.
• Floors: Place rugs or foam mats inside to reduce heat loss through the floor.

💧 Water & Plumbing Protection
• Freshwater Hose: Use a heated water hose or wrap your hose in pipe insulation with heat tape.
• Sewer Hose: Keep it disconnected until tanks are nearly full, then dump and store it to prevent freezing.
• Pipes & Tanks:
• Add RV antifreeze to gray and black tanks.
• If your rig doesn’t have heated tanks, use tank heaters or insulation pads.
• Interior Protection: Open cabinet doors around plumbing at night so warm air circulates.

🔥 Heating & Power
• Primary Heat: RV furnace works well but burns propane quickly—keep tanks topped off.
• Safety: Install a carbon monoxide detector and keep a fire extinguisher handy.
• Battery Care: Cold drains batteries faster—consider a heated battery blanket or keep them on a trickle charger.

🧊 Condensation & Moisture Control
• Use a dehumidifier or DampRid to prevent mold.
• Ventilate daily—even cracking windows helps.
• Run vent fans when cooking or showering.

🚐 Extra Winter Prep
• Roof & Vents: Check seals and recaulk to prevent leaks.
• Engine (if motorhome): Use winter-grade oil and check antifreeze levels.
• Snow/Ice: Keep a roof rake handy so snow doesn’t build up on top.
