Listen up, ECCHO members. Your money has been taken away from you for *years*, and the only thing to show for it is a delaying of the inevitable. Let’s move forward responsibly and accept New Urban West’s more than generous settlement offer:
“Frankel said he would like to discuss the potential reimbursement of all members of the community who have donated to ECCHO.”
Escondido Country Club future still in limbo as an appeal is filed and a settlement offer is made Even as trees are being cut down on the 109-acres of the former Escondido Country Club property, the fight over the approval of a 380-home project continues to be litigated, at least for now.

Awesome! No appeals! Let’s move forward!!
Escondido Country Club lawsuit thrown out of court A lawsuit challenging last year’s Escondido City Council’s approval of a 380-home development on the grounds of the former Escondido Country Club has been thrown out of court.
ECCHO board President just listed his house for sale, listing agent ECCHO board member Betty Ferrell. Interesting!

Thank you New Urban West! Cleaning up our community 👏👏👏
Clubhouse coming down on long-closed but still controversial golf course site Six months after fire destroyed an abandoned golf course clubhouse in Escondido, crews started tearing down and hauling off the remains. The cleanup should talk about a month.

Hopefully this frivolous lawsuit will be dismissed quickly and we can move forward with the revitalization of our community!
Escondido Country Club saga could be near end The five-year Escondido Country Club saga could be coming to an end soon with the recent filing of court papers arguing that a lawsuit — the last hurdle before homes can be built on the shuttered golf course — should be dismissed.

Knowing that a lawsuit can not prevent the project from ultimately proceeding, ECCHO's ill-advised decision to sue amounts to utter foolishness. Their frivolous lawsuit will allow the blight and decay to continue, while costing city taxpayers millions of dollars to defend against it. Worse, it could result in a much larger project thanks to new state legislation. Sadly, ECCHO has decided to stop at nothing to harm our community and City.
ECCHO Decides to Sue City, Taxpayers and Continue Blight Today ECCHO notified their intent to sue the City of Escondido and subsequently taxpayers. This frivolous lawsuit will allow the blight and decay of our neighborhood to continue, while costing city taxpayers hundreds of thousands of dollars to defend against it. Worse, it could result in a much larg...

Another important read on why suing the City of Escondido makes no sense!
In a recent letter to the neighborhood, ECCHO admitted the truth about what a lawsuit will achieve: "In the end, Michael Schlesinger will continue to own the property and would undoubtedly bring another development proposal to the City"
So according to ECCHO, suing will UNDOUBTEDLY result in a new plan being brought forth....one with WAY more homes than were approved in the villages. But worse, a lawsuit actually KEEPS Schlesinger in control because New Urban West cannot purchase the land.
Let's stop throwing good money after bad. It is time to move forward, not pursue divisive and frivolous lawsuits.
Stop the Madness | Escondido Times-Advocate This just has to stop. The residents and supporters of the Escondido Country Club Home Owner's group (ECCHO) is threatening to file yet another lawsuit in their quixotic attempt to override the approval given to developer New Urban West by the City of Escondido to build 380 homes on the defunct golf...

For those unable to attend the ECCHO meeting last night, three key facts were admitted by ECCHO President Mike Slater: (1) A lawsuit WILL NOT prevent development from happening on the golf course property. When asked what a “win” would look like in a legal challenge, Slater admitted that, even if successful, suing the City would simply require the City to modify the EIR and then construction could begin. It is all just a delay tactic. (2) with new State density bonus laws, at least 500 homes could legally be built on the property. (3) Suing the City puts taxpayers at risk and diverts important City resources.
What do we gain by pursuing this delay strategy? A lawsuit results in no meaningful change to the project, puts millions of taxpayer dollars at risk, results in years of additional uncertainty for our entire community and continues to depress property values for everyone. Plus, we put everyone at risk of getting a new low income housing plan with 500+ units, as is allowed by law. Oh, and by the way, ECCHO needs $100,000 from our neighborhood to fund the lawsuit against…..ourselves and other Escondido taxpayers.
This simply doesn’t make any sense.
We need to deal with the hazardous condition of the clubhouse. We cannot accept this as the centerpiece of our neighborhood. If there is no lawsuit, New Urban West will purchase the property and begin work immediately to address the health and safety issues posed by the charred clubhouse and other fire dangers presented by the old golf course. Having worked with New Urban West closely for nearly two years, we know they will be a good neighbor. Pursuing delays only keeps the current property owner in the driver’s seat.
As we have said many times before, it is time to move forward. Let’s make this plan the best it can possibly be and focus on healing and coming together -- not pursuing divisive legal action that harms our property community and City.

Here they go! Suing the taxpayers of Escondido to "put a hold" on the revitalization effort. These delay tactics will not help our community.
