Welcome to the official A Step Beyond page! Serving North County San Diego, 100% of our graduates are college or career bound.
We are a Creative Youth Development nonprofit empowering youth through dance, academics, and family services.
✈️ We recently celebrated the conclusion of our residency with the San Diego International Airport!
During the event, our youth and staff performed 'Migration: Making a Home in Transit,' an original dance work inspired by the performers' lived experiences and exploring how we define “home” amid changing environments and the complexities of everyday life.
Guests also had the opportunity to view the artwork and costumes featured throughout the residency, offering a deeper look into the creative process behind the performance. 🎨
Thank you, San Diego International Airport for this incredible opportunity and for providing a platform for our youth to share their creativity through art and dance. This is an experience we will cherish for years to come.

Meet ASB Seniors: Alyssa, Angel M, & Lindsay 🎓

Alyssa joined A Step Beyond during her freshman year of high school and plans to attend Palomar College to study nursing as she works toward becoming a pediatrician.
Angel M joined A Step Beyond in 4th grade and plans to attend Palomar College to pursue a career as an EMT.
Lindsay plans to attend the University of California, Davis next year.
We are so proud of them as they take this exciting next step and graduate from the ASB program next week. 💜

What does "heart" mean to you? ❤️
This question inspired the theme of our Arise! Concert art exhibit, Corazón.
Our youth had an amazing time creating artwork that was displayed during both of our sold-out performances. Audience members were invited to explore the exhibit before the show, during intermission, and after the performance.

Our 4th–5th grade students at A Step Beyond recently celebrated their Open House, where they showcased the dance moves and skills they’ve been learning in class for their families and loved ones.

Meet ASB Seniors: Angel & Shara 🎓

Angel joined A Step Beyond in 2016, and the program has played a meaningful role in his growth, leadership, and high school experience. He plans to stay local and pursue a degree in engineering.
Shara joined A Step Beyond in 6th grade. She will attend the University of California, Davis, where she plans to major in Clinical Nutrition. Her goal is to build a career in the medical field and help others.
We are so proud of Angel and Shara as they take this exciting next step. 💜

Our brand new Trinket Trade Box at A Step Beyond! 💜
Ms. Yahaira and some of our youth painted both our Free Library and our new Trinket Trade Box, a space where students can exchange small treasures by trading something they bring.
"This is why we can make a trinket box. We can share and not pay because some people can't afford expensive stuff." - ASB student
"This will encourage people to donate items they do not use, and people can exchange items for items they actually want." - ASB student
