The delicate hoarfrost lines the branches on a cold, still morning.

I love August for being the season of sunflowers. ๐ŸŒป๐Ÿ’›

Duo of birds flying over the canyon early in the brisk dawn air. Seen from the Mathers Point Overlook, Grand Canyon National Park.

The Diamond Ring effect occurs just before and right after totality. The photosphere of the Sun peeks from behind the Moonโ€™s silhouette through the uneven lunar surface, causing a bright gleam to appear, reminiscent of a shiny diamond ring. It is not safe to view with the naked eye.
This was my image of the Diamond Ring effect from the Great North American Eclipse, exactly one year ago today. 08 April 2024

This is almost 200 feet of sandstone cliffs. The colorful streaks that paint the cliffs are made from mineral-rich water that runs down the walls. Iron, copper, and lime are a few of the many minerals found within the spring and groundwater that seep through the cracks.
As seen on the Pictured Rocks Cruise.

Hope everyone had a nice 4th of July. Got some of the fireworks shot off in Gladstone from the Esky side of the Bay. ๐ŸŽ†๐ŸŽ‡

Have you ever seen a ground squirrel? This species in particular is called the Thirteen-lined Ground Squirrel, and they seem to be pretty uncommon in the Central U.P. I found this one in the outskirts of Soo Hill.

Glad to see the cardinals are still out despite all of the rain! โ˜บ๏ธ

I feel itโ€™s been a lot more rainy than usual, but Iโ€™m alright with that. After all, rain showers bring us flowers! โ˜บ๏ธ

Mother Nature decided to make up for the clouded out U.P. on Friday with a bright show last night! It started out slow, then exploded just after midnight with pillars and waves over Esky.

I got to witness my first total solar eclipse on Monday, and let me just say, it was GLORIOUS! Thereโ€™s nothing like viewing totality within the shadow of the umbra, as the sunโ€™s corona glowed around the moon. Iโ€™m very glad everything lined up perfectly (pun intended) to make this work! ๐Ÿ˜Œ
