A big shout out to Leanne Cockrell and Mary Lou Lund who received the Outstanding Person In Education (OPIE) Award tonight! The Learning Center is honored and lucky to call you employees! Congratulations to the both of you!

Superintendent Selfie - Celebration Style - LeeAnne Cockrell and Mary Lou Lund were each recognized as an Outstanding Person in Education on May 7th at a special ceremony at the Highland Golf Club. Mrs. Cockrell is a teacher at the Lemmer Learning Center Satellite Classroom. Ms. Mary Lou is a paraprofessional at the DSISD Learning Center. These ladies are amazing advocates for their students. Congratulations to both award winners!

The water is resolved at the Learning Center and classes will resume as normal for Wednesday April 15th

Attention Parents & Guardians - The Learning Center will be closed on Tuesday April 14th due to no current water. The satellite classrooms at Lemmer, EUE and Rapid River will be open today.

This week at the Learning Center is spirit week! Also, for those that drop-off and pick-up, the parking lot will have limited spaces due to the amount of snow from last week. We apologize for the inconvenience.

The Learning Center and its Satellite Classrooms will be CLOSED on 3/19/26 due to significant road safety concerns.

Due to significant road safety concerns identified by the Delta County Road Commission, the following Delta-Schoolcraft Intermediate School District member districts will not hold school on Thursday, March 19, 2026: Bark River-Harris Schools, Delta-Schoolcraft ISD, (including The Learning Center and its Satellite Classrooms and Small Wonders), Escanaba Area Public Schools, Gladstone Area Schools, Rapid River Schools, Nah Tah Wahsh PSA, & Mid Peninsula Schools.

Road conditions created by recent weather events pose significant risks for student transportation in much of the area, and we have been advised that conditions will not improve sufficiently by tomorrow morning to ensure safe travel for buses and families. Student safety is always our highest priority, and because road officials have expressed serious concerns about transportation safety, we are acting out of an abundance of caution.

Families should monitor school communication channels for updates regarding events and practices as well as Friday's schedule. We appreciate the road commission's proactive communication and the understanding of our families and staff as we make this decision in the best interest of student safety.
