Hello Countryside Peeps!
We are excited to announce that Obedience and Scent Work classes will be starting soon at Countryside Agility! We have long wanted to offer more fun things to do with your dog and finally have been able to fit in some new stuff!
If you are interested in signing up for a class or finding out more information about future classes be sure to use this contact for all Scentwork and Obedience : Michelle Plazony at [email protected]
Please do not email the countryside office about these classes ! (as we have our hands full with AGILITY!)
🐾 Scent Work (Scent Work)
Scent Work is a FUN and highly beneficial activity that allows your dog to use their natural hunting instincts. It provides intense mental stimulation — just 15–20 minutes can equal an hour-long walk — along with low-impact physical exercise.
Benefits include:
Reduces anxiety and builds confidence
Strengthens the bond between dog and handler
Can be done anywhere with no special equipment required
Suitable for ANY dog
Class begins by building your dog’s confidence and excitement for the game. Dogs start by searching for a favorite reward hidden in one of several boxes. The activity is self-rewarding — when they find the treat or toy, they immediately get to enjoy it!
As skills develop, searches expand from a few boxes to larger rooms, then to outdoor areas and even vehicles!
Eventually, dogs learn to search for and identify a specific target odor and locate its source. This sport is an incredible confidence builder — and a fantastic learning experience for handlers too!
🐾 Obedience Classes
Using positive reinforcement methods, you will learn how to teach your dog:
Sit, down, stay/wait
Recall, leave it, drop it
Loose leash walking
Place
Crate games and confidence-building games
The course is designed with the American Kennel Club Canine Good Citizen test in mind. Handler/dog teams are invited to test for their CGC at the end of the course if they feel ready. You may need additional training before being ready to test .
Classes will be offered on Thursdays as follows:
Thursdays:
11am-12am Puppy/Basic Obedience
12:15-1:15 Scent Work Foundation
4:45-5:45 Puppy/Basic Obedience
6:00-7:00 Scent Work Foundation
7:15-8:15 Continuing Scent Work (for dogs already introduced to odor)
8:30-9:30 Puppy/Basic Obedience
Please note that class levels/times may be changed/combined based on enrollment.
Six weeks, 1 hour class, $150
Prerequisite: None except Continuing Scent Work is for dogs already introduced to odor
Class Start date: April 2, 2026

Interested in learning how to help your dog build better jumping skills and instilling confidence and speed using jump grids?
The Susan Salo jump grid program was designed for this purpose ! In her program she teaches the importance of using grids in training an agility dog. The grids teach the dogs to transfer their weight which allows them to perform clean jumping skills.
Sue Reuss has been teaching Grid classes based on the Salo program for many years for her agility students in Buffalo and has agreed to give us a workshop going thru all the basic/beginner foundations and grids.
Our instructors all had first dibs on working spots so they are full but this is a workshop where auditing is almost better as you can concentrate on watching the dogs work thru the grids , It is about not only learning the rules associated with working the grids , but developing an eye for what is correct ex*****on .
There has been so much interest in this topic we will try to offer other workshops this winter
The workshop is being held this Sun Jan 4th
9-1 Basic intro to the Grid program with the first set point jump exercise and basic grids
2-6 A continuation of beginner grids.
$30 to audit one session , $50 for the entire day of auditing
Contact Denise at [email protected] to sign up to audit or for more info

Sorry this announcement is last minute as things have been pretty hectic here, I have scheduled another ACT test at Countryside for Sat Jan 3 as promised ! You can download the entry form on our website www.countrysideagility.com under trial info.
Questions? email Denise at [email protected]
This one will offer all 4 rounds of ACT 1 like before PLUS all 4 rounds of ACT 2 .
If you didn't finish up a title in ACT 1 you can enter the classes you need plus you are allowed to enter the ACT 2 regardless if you have finished your ACT 1 yet.
So you can enter just ACT 1 classes . just ACT 2 classes or enter a mixture of ACT 1 and 2 :)
We will start with ACT 1 classes at 9 am and run all 4 of them like before , we will give out ribbons then change the courses and go right into ACT 2 all 4 courses
ACT has a few more obstacles but more importantly you will have 6 weaves and a teeter in STD and also weaves in jumpers so be sure and get practicing !
We are also offering runthru's on any of the courses for $5 per run .
This time we will NOT be taking entries at the trial , you will need to get your entry filled out and either sent in or dropped off to the office at 2321 W 38th St Erie Pa 16506 or you can scan and send to the office at [email protected] . If sending email then please pay thru Paypal to [email protected] using Friends and Family so we don't get charged the fees . If no other way you can bring cash to the show.
Remember mail is slow right now ! We do have a mail slot in the front lobby door if you stop by and we are not open ,
The test is limited to the first 100 runs so get it in asap!
Merry Christmas and see you in Jan!
