💔 Meet Sky.

Recently, we were contacted about a terrier mix in Bradford who was in distress after losing her puppies. Heartbroken and refusing to eat, Sky needed help.

Without hesitation, Erie Humane Society staff made the round trip to bring her safely into our care. Once she arrived, it was clear she wasn’t feeling well, so she was transported to Glenwood Pet Hospital for further evaluation.

Sky underwent X-rays to ensure there were no remaining undelivered puppies, and bloodwork was performed to determine the cause of her condition. Thankfully, her tests came back normal, but she required overnight hospitalization and supportive care before returning to EHS.

Today, Sky is beginning to settle into her kennel, where she’ll continue to receive the love, comfort, and care she needs as she recovers.

At the Erie Humane Society, we never turn away a pet in need of medical care. Whether it’s emergency transport, diagnostics, hospitalization, or ongoing treatment, we are committed to being there when animals have nowhere else to turn.

Unfortunately, cases like Sky’s come with significant medical expenses that quickly add up and place additional strain on our resources.

If you’d like to help offset the cost of Sky’s care, please click the Donate button below or visit eriehumanesociety.org to make a gift. Every dollar helps us continue saying “yes” when pets like Sky need us most.

This lovely girl is four-year-old Lena, a Dogo Argentino mix. She was originally adopted from the Erie Humane Society but was returned as she was not getting along with the other female dog. She was initially placed in a public kennel but the stress proved too much and she started to lose weight. She was moved to a quiet kennel out of public view and is eating much better.

Lena takes a while to warm up to people, especially men. She has, however, developed a wonderful relationship with our male kennel attendants and volunteers. It just takes a little longer for her to feel safe and comfortable with men. Once you become her friend, she is very affectionate and loves to snuggle and give kisses. Lena gets along with select other dogs but we’re not sure about cats. Her best friend and playmate, Scooby, was adopted a few weeks ago. Lena walks incredibly well on the leash, pulling to get outside the building but once out, will walk at your pace. She takes her treats gently.

Lena is a sweet, sensitive, affectionate girl who will make a wonderful family companion. It will take time but the process and final results will be well worth the effort. Please share this post as we need to get Lena out of the kennel and into a loving home. We would love to have you visit Lena at the Erie Humane Society.

A familiar face with the Erie Humane Society is stepping in to lead our organization through a time of transition: Longtime EHS board member and experienced nonprofit and healthcare professional Peggy Schneider has been appointed interim executive director. She has stepped down from her position on the board to assume the interim role. Peggy knows a lot about EHS and is passionate about our mission. We know she’ll do great things! 👏🐾
