TRIGGER WARNING

I can't even bring myself to attach the photo of the "Dangers of not buckling up" fact sheet due to the imagery. I will put it under the comments with a trigger warning.

Everyone, please drive slow, pay attention, put your cell phone down, and buckle your seat belts. In light of recent events it literally makes me feel sick to even bring this up, but someone needs to hear it. We all need to slow down and be more attentive and never drive distracted. I am speaking from experience. It is never worth it to be in a hurry, to get somewhere 1 minute earlier, to text while keeping one eye on the road, to drive under any influence of drugs or alcohol. It is never worth it.

Did you know that in 1984 New York State was the first state in the country to pass a mandatory front seat belt use law?

Did you know that New York State law now requires all motor vehicle passengers ages 8 and older to wear seat belts, regardless of seating position?

And why do we encourage and mandate use of seat belts?

Because they save lives.

While seat belt compliance in is over 90% the sad reality is when seat belts aren’t worn the results can be catastrophic. Without a seatbelt being used you are thirty times more likely being ejected form your vehicle and 75% of the time that person will die.

According to stats from New York State Department of Motor Vehicles despite a 94% compliance rate roughly 33% of the front-seat occupants killed on New York State roadways are unrestrained. When unbelted back seat occupants killed are included, the total unrestrained killed percentage rises to approximately 37%.

Wearing a seatbelt is one of the most important things you should do when driving or riding in a vehicle.
