America has always been a country on the move.
From early trails and rail lines to highways, hotels, stations and the places we gather along the way, signs have helped people navigate the journey.
For the Grand Canyon Railway & Hotel, we created custom signage that supports that sense of movement - guiding guests through the property while tying into the character of a destination rooted in travel and American adventure.
As we count down to America’s 250th, we’re celebrating the signs that guide us forward - one place, one path and one journey at a time.

It may not look glamorous yet ... but this is what a major milestone looks like.
Crates. More crates. And then a few more crates.
One of the largest projects in Boyd Sign Systems history is leaving our Colorado shop and making its way across America to North Carolina.
Inside those crates is months of design coordination, fabrication, finishing, packaging and teamwork - all headed toward its final destination.
As part of our Countdown to America’s 250th, we’re celebrating the signs that move across the country before they help move people through a space.
Colorado to North Carolina ... let’s roll.

Some symbols need no words.
On Flag Day, we honor one of the most recognized and meaningful symbols in our nation’s history - the American flag.
Adopted on June 14, 1777, the flag has represented generations of service, sacrifice, unity and pride. As we continue our Countdown to America’s 250th, it feels fitting to pause and recognize the power of a symbol that has helped tell America’s story for nearly 250 years.
At Boyd Sign Systems, we understand how much meaning a visual detail can carry. A flag, like a sign, can mark a place, represent a community and remind us of something bigger than ourselves.
Happy Flag Day from all of us at Boyd Sign Systems.

Signs of America: Countdown to 250
As America approaches 250 years, we’re taking a moment to look at the signs, symbols and visual details that have helped shape the places we live, work and gather.
From historic plaques and storefront signs to wayfinding systems, dimensional letters and accessibility signage, these details do more than identify a space - they help tell its story.
At Boyd Sign Systems, we’ve always believed good signage should be built with purpose, pride and a respect for place.
Over the coming weeks, we’ll be sharing a mini series celebrating American craftsmanship, visual identity and the details that continue to guide us forward.

Throwback Thursday...Project Spotlight
Allegro Playacar Resort
Back when this project came to life, it was all about blending signage into the experience...not just directing guests, but reinforcing the brand at every touchpoint.
From hand-crafted directional signs to custom identity pieces and monument signage...every detail was built with intention and durability in mind.
What stands out looking back...the design still holds up. Clean...recognizable...and built to last in a demanding coastal environment.
That’s the goal then and now...signage that performs just as well years later as it did on day one.

Material Monday: Solid Wood
Some materials bring warmth the moment you see them. Solid wood does exactly that.
Natural grain, texture, variation and depth create signage that feels authentic, grounded and connected to the environment around it. Whether it’s a hospitality space, resort or office, solid wood can instantly soften a space and add character that manufactured materials simply cannot replicate.
It’s one of the most visually rich materials we work with.
✔ Unique natural grain patterns
✔ Warm, organic appearance
✔ Great for hospitality and experiential environments
✔ Works beautifully with metal, acrylic, and dimensional lettering
✔ Adds texture and craftsmanship to wayfinding systems
That said…wood is still a living material. Temperature, humidity and environmental changes can all affect how it performs over time. Because of that, solid wood requires thoughtful engineering, finishing and application planning to ensure long-term durability.
In many cases, we help clients evaluate where solid wood makes sense—and where alternative materials like wood veneer may offer a more stable solution while achieving a similar aesthetic.

Wayfinding that works hard and looks sharp doing it.
For NOVEL RiNo by Crescent Communities in Denver, we fabricated and installed a cohesive signage package that supports the property experience from parking levels to stairwells, elevator lobbies and interior corridors.
The design language is clean, bold and easy to navigate - with circular level markers, high-contrast life safety signage and warm brass/gold details that tie beautifully into the overall environment. We love seeing thoughtful design translated into signage that is both functional and memorable.
It was a pleasure helping bring this package to life alongside Crescent Communities, NOVEL RiNo, Milender White and the talented team at 505Design (now Cooper Carry)/.

Historic details deserve signage that feels like it has always belonged.
For the Colorado National Bank Hotel in Denver, Boyd Sign Systems recreated the iconic “CNB” logo from the original bank vault door and carried that heritage into the hotel’s room identification signage. The replica emblem was paired with a beveled wood panel, Rowmark copy and braille beads to create a sign that honors the building’s history while meeting today’s accessibility standards.
It is always rewarding when signage does more than identify a space - it helps preserve the story behind it.

Material Monday: Photopolymer by Nova Polymers, Inc.
Some materials are built for decoration. Photopolymer is built for communication.
Photopolymer has become a trusted standard in ADA signage because it delivers something incredibly important…precision.
Every tactile character, braille dot, symbol and detail is created through a photographic exposure process that produces crisp, consistent, code-compliant results across an entire signage program.
But photopolymer isn’t just functional. It’s one of the most versatile materials in architectural signage.
✔ Precise tactile copy and braille for ADA compliance
✔ High-detail graphics, patterns, and textures
✔ Layered dimensional effects without bulky fabrication
✔ Durable performance for long-term interior applications
✔ Endless design flexibility through paint, print, and finishes
What makes photopolymer stand out is the ability to combine technical performance with elevated design. You’re not forced into a “standard ADA look.”
You can create signage systems that feel modern, branded, warm, minimal, bold—or completely custom—while still meeting accessibility requirements.
👉 Follow along each Monday as we break down the materials—and methods—behind effective signage systems.

Throwback Thursday - Atlantis Resort Pool + Beach Signage
This one takes us back.
Years ago, we partnered on the pool and beach environments at Atlantis... delivering signage that had to do more than just inform. It had to fit the experience, handle the elements and stay consistent across a massive property.
From safety and regulatory signage to guest-facing information throughout the water features and beachfront...every piece was designed to perform in a high-traffic, high-exposure environment.
Looking back, what stands out is the balance...clear communication, cohesive design and materials built to withstand sun, salt and constant use.
