For days now, the evening shores have been jammed with cars and walkers to witness the “red tide.” This unique and stunning local phenomenon has been peaking as a result of the significant rains that we received in April. The runoff from the rains carries various nutrients to the ocean which result in a chemical reaction with algae. The algae blooms which appear red in the daytime, produce an soft and eerie teal, blue glow at night as the water is disturbed by such things as sea life and waves. The photo below, of a wave rolling in last night is the best example of the “bioluminescence” that I could get with only my I-phone on hand!
