We’re all home, but we’re missing the people who felt like home for the past month.

We’ve been home for a week now, adjusting to the US, processing our experience, and missing Altea. This month was a blessing and I pray that we never forget all we learned and continue learning from it long into the future.

Signing off,
The Dad Joke Sorority

It is hard to believe that we are down to our last day in this place all together.

Today we took two hours of solitude time to reflect on our experience before coming together to talk about it. Both the solitude and discussion were fruitful as we saw all of the ways God has met us this month.

We have seen his beauty in the different shades of blue that make up the ocean.

We have seen his joy in all of the laughs we share.

We have seen his kindness in all of the shop owners that have become our friends.

We have seen his love in the way we know and see each other.

It has been a blessing to do life here in Altea, walking in the way of Jesus, learning from his ordinary life how to be a blessing no matter where we go.

This lovely day, we traveled to Benidorm and received expert golf training with a new friend we met in Altea! In the morning we traveled to the farmers market again and get some fresh produce. Overall a good day!

Sometimes it is nice to sit in a church and spend time with God.

Even though I wasn’t raised Catholic, I love the way they build churches; it is so easy to see the majesty of God, and this church has become one of my favorite places to be in the word or journal.

Lately we have been going through Mark looking at the way of Jesus, learning to walk with him. We noted all of the verbs associated with him and found them to be somewhat ordinary and when writing out scenes, adding in descriptions of how Jesus did things, we found his actions to be extraordinarily kind yet simple and human.

It has expanded my idea of what it looks like to live like Jesus. Simple acts of saying hi to someone using their name can be recognition of them as an individual worthy of being known. It is little things like this that I’m excited to take back to the states with me.

hello & happy Thursday! today we started our day with a wonderful conversation on genesis 2 and God being our source by whom we can serve & love others. We all enjoyed the rest of our day journaling and praying, going to the gym, and swimming in the sea to cool down on this hot day! We then broke into pairs for dinner! Kacie and Kathryn enjoyed trying Classic India for delicious Indian food! We then had to pop by our favorite gelato shop Kakirucho of course ;) thanks for following along with our daily updates!

This morning we went into town to explore, visit friends, and make new friendships. A few of us explored the streets, cafes, or stores. It’s so wonderful to be able to build connections in Altea with locals and learn about cultural differences. We feel blessed with this experience.

Today we visited another church, this one was in a near by town called Calpe. The people were warm and greeted us kindly and the service held the familiar, challenging, and different all at the same time. We observed common themes between our two experiences.

We then walked through the town, ate lunch together and enjoyed the water and beaches of Calpe.

It’s good to be a witness of the places and people who fill the streets around us.

Another stories of Edge by our good friend, George! Thank you for your intentionality, your purpose, and your expression, !!
————————————————————————— While I was in Spain, it became very apparent that I would struggle with finding stillness in the unscheduled lulls of the afternoon. I hadn't felt so useless before and was even ready to leave. However, extended dedicated time to channel that restlessness into a space of stillness became successful. Little did I know that this discipline to cultivate a space of stillness and safety would allow me to further engage with the restless questions of belief when conversing with the friends I made in Altea. This was something I was very thankful for as it translated into working out of a center of stillness even when things got stressful in my own life. For this especially, I appreciated my time in Altea.

Stories of Edge— featuring Alyssa Mae, Edge 2020! We love your passion for others & for Jesus. 💙 ————————————————————————
During my time with the team, I learned life long lessons about cross-cultural engagement and who we are in this story of God’s diverse kingdom! Not only this, but I grew in my engagements with the people of my team- learning more about other’s lives coming to Christ. Through the people right in front of me, I was shown who Christ is. We have built each other up in preparation for our endeavor in Spain and we take these lessons with us regardless of whether or not we will be there this summer. I am so grateful for Arianna for welcoming the team and I and for her bright optimism throughout the process. In the short time I’ve spent with her I can say that I have truly felt the fire that she puts into this project and I can’t wait to see how much the project grows in the future! @ Altea, Spain

Stories of Edge — by .mayl, one of our Cultural Immersion Interns! Thank you, Kyle, for your service and words!! —————————————————————— Edge is a sanctuary and a social experiment. It is a return to the grassroots kingdom movement that Jesus started over two millennia ago. It’s where you reset your rhythms, broaden your perspective, and learn to build the beloved community that Jesus calls us to. Whether it’s the community meals, the cultural excursions, the worship nights, the art workshops and expositions, or the Scripture conversations, Edge is devotion and transformation. Both years I’ve been a part of Edge I’ve been challenged—to be vulnerable, to share the Good News, to take creative risks, to love others better. I came into Edge weary and uncertain and left refreshed and more assured. Edge has a way of reminding us of our true priorities, of restoring our spiritual vision.

Edge is an unconventional, organic, cross-cultural ministry, nourishing both the participants and the community of Altea. I am forever grateful for the friendships I have forged with God, others, and myself over these past couple years. Edge has shown me the pure joy of living in the light of the Lord.
