Our mission is to create a better world for animals and people by ending the human/street dog conflict. My life was good, but something was missing.
When I was about to turn 40, I decided I needed to do something that would really expand my horizons. A feeling of making a true contribution on this planet was lacking deep down inside of me. The need to fill that void led me to Dharamsala, India to spend several weeks volunteering at a preschool. Working with the children proved completely overwhelming, as did the chaotic culture of India. What truly got to me, however, was seeing an injured and bloody dog lying in the temple where the school was held, apparently left to die. It broke my heart to watch the dog suffer — and to see how little the local people seemed to care about his condition. I was saddened by the reactions, and felt helpless. Incredibly, my path crossed with a local man who knew someone who could help. Miraculously, my actions and concern sparked a change. Today, I am happy to report the dog, Tommy, is healthy and cared for by this very village. Upon returning home to the USA, I knew I needed to do everything in my power to improve the lives of the street animals. ⚠️ Emergency Rescue: A maggot-infested wound left him fighting immense pain.
Monty was found with a severe wound around his left ear, already infested with maggots eating him alive. He was also diagnosed with tick fever, leaving him even more vulnerable.
He had been spotted before, but fear made Monty run away when someone tried to rescue him. Thankfully, a passerby later managed to bring him safely to DAR, where our team could finally begin treating his injuries. 🤍
Monty really needs:
→ Regular wound cleaning and dressing
→ Maggot removal and infection prevention
→ Treatment for tick fever
→ Close medical monitoring and supportive care

⚠️ Emergency Rescue: A tiny puppy found with a shattered jaw
Just 4 months old, Serena was found with a fractured jaw and multiple injuries, surviving alone on the streets. She was unable to eat anything and was in immense pain.
A local community member found her and took her to one of DAR’s donors for help. Thankfully, our team was already nearby during our Anti Rabies Vaccination Drive, so Dr. Shaheem examined Serena and advised that she be brought to DAR, with helping transport her to safety. 🤍
Serena urgently needs:
→ Pain management and intensive medical care
→ Fluid therapy and nutritional support
→ Close monitoring of her fractured jaw
→ Quarantine and observation following the neck bite

The car moves on. The pain stays behind.
Every day, animals pay the price for human carelessness, cruelty, and indifference. They are hit, abandoned, hurt, and left to endure suffering they cannot understand or escape from.
They cannot ask why we hurt them. They cannot demand justice. And they cannot tell us how much it hurts.
🙏🏾 But our community can choose to notice.
One person stopping.
One person calling for help.
One person refusing to leave a helpless animal behind.
Maybe compassion begins when we stop and help an animal in need, even if that means: calling the closest animal rescue foundation and alerting them. Because stopping and helping can save lives.

⚠️ Emergency Rescue: An abandoned senior dog with pressure sores and painful maggot wounds.
Poor Pong is an abandoned pet, at 13 years of age, he had become too weak to walk.
With no one looking after him, he was left lying in the same spot for days, until painful pressure sores developed across his back and became infested with maggots. His condition left him extremely weak and vulnerable.
The hotel staff who had cared for him for years reached out to DAR when they could see that Pong was no longer able to manage on his own. Our team brought him to DAR for treatment and supportive care.
For his recovery, Pong now needs:
→ Regular wound cleaning and dressing
→ Maggot removal and infection prevention
→ Medical treatment and supportive care
→ Close monitoring given his age and weakness
But we cannot do this without YOUR donations…

⚠️ Urgent Rescue: A dog fight left him covered in painful wounds and fighting for his life.
Zuzu was found after a fight with other street dogs, suffering from multiple painful bite wounds.
At 9 years old, his body was already vulnerable. He was also diagnosed with tick fever, leaving him increasingly weak while his injuries needed urgent care.
Several feeders were worried about Zuzu and contacted Sanjay, one of DAR’s para-vets for help. Zuzu is safe at DAR now, and is receiving the treatment he urgently needs!
Zuzu’s treatment includes:
→ Immediate wound cleaning and dressing
→ Treatment for his multiple injuries
→ Antibiotics and medication for tick fever
→ Close medical monitoring and supportive care

🐾 20 days. One mission: Rabies-Free Dharamshala
For 20 days, DAR × Mission Rabies [] as a team has been out in the field, working through different wards across Dharamshala to vaccinate as many dogs as possible. 💉
And we can happily announce that we have vaccinated a total of
🎉 3117 dogs.
But this work doesn’t happen because of our team alone. 🤍
Community members have helped us spot dogs, guide our team, and make it possible to reach more animals in their neighborhoods.
That little “tikka” on a dog’s forehead is more than a mark, it’s a sign that one more life has been protected, and one more step has been taken towards a safer community for both humans and dogs. 🐶
But the most important thing is, ending rabies takes more than vaccines. It takes a community willing to show up.
We’re doing our bit.

Do you know what rabies is and why it is so dangerous?
Rabies is a deadly viral disease that affects the nervous system and can be transmitted through the saliva of an infected animal, most commonly through a bite or scratch. It can affect both humans and animals, and once clinical symptoms appear, it is almost always fatal.
🚨 But here’s the most important part:
Rabies is 100% fatal once symptoms appear,
BUT also 100% preventable!
Knowing how it spreads, vaccinating animals, and taking immediate action after a bite or scratch can save lives. Washing the wound thoroughly with soap and running water for 15 minutes and seeking medical attention immediately are critical first steps.
⭐️ That’s why DAR, together with Mission Rabies (), is working to vaccinate 4,000 dogs across Dharamshala and surrounding areas during our Mass Anti-Rabies Vaccination Drive.
Because ending rabies isn’t just about vaccination. It’s about creating a community where humans and animals can live together safely, with awareness replacing fear. 🤍
‼️ Around 59,000 people worldwide die from rabies every year according to WHO.
But most deaths are preventable.
But first, what is Rabies?
Rabies is a deadly viral disease that attacks the brain and nervous system, usually spreading through the bite or scratch of an infected animal.
Early symptoms can include fever, pain, and unusual tingling or burning around the wound. Later, it can cause confusion, hallucinations, difficulty swallowing, fear of water, paralysis and once clinical symptoms appear, it is virtually 100% fatal.
💔 So why are people still dying from a disease we can prevent?
Because bites can be ignored, treatment can be delayed, and vaccination is still not reaching everyone who needs it.
But the biggest reason?
Absence of knowledge!
So now DAR is taking real action. Together with Mission Rabies (), we’re aiming to vaccinate 4,000 street dogs in and around Dharamshala, stopping rabies at its source and actually educating people, making our communities safer for both humans and animals.
