We’ve received over two inches of rain in two days and decided to take advantage of a break in the storms to check the culverts. The creeks are full and a couple have washed out but things look pretty good. We will see what this new storm brings.
Slow down a moment.
The world will keep turning.
Listen to the wind quaking the aspens.
Watch the light settle on the hills.
Notice what’s blooming right in front of you.
The best things in life aren’t rushed. They’re deeply rooted in the rhythms of nature. All good things are wild and free.

Always waiting ♥️
I know we aren’t supposed to pick favorites but these two have to be some of the very cutest on the whole ranch 😍

Amen!
A rancher's calving prayer.
Dear Lord
We are thankful for another season of new life, may we never loose our awe of the miracle of birth.
Thank you Lord for making us herdsmen. We pray we are half as good as you.
May the chains stay dry & the pullers never used.
We pray the mommas will nurture as you designed & every calf will nurse. If we need to intervene, please guide us as to the timing & the need.
Lord, we are blessed to lead this life & know that when help is needed, our good neighbors will be right there!
Whether beef or seed we pray each will do their part to nourish man.
May they gain all they can & the market stay high!
In Jesus name, Amen!

Our sweet friend, told me yesterday the little tale of the “fairy knot horse”. It refers to a folklore belief that knots and tangles appearing in a horse’s mane are created by fairies who ride them at night. These knots, also called witch’s knots or elf locks, are thought to be reins and stirrups the fairies leave behind after their magical adventures. So, naturally, only the best horses have them becaise they’re the fairies’ favorites. I’m not sure I’ll ever brush a mane again and not think of it.
I love the deep bellow of the bulls. We usually keep around 12 bulls to cover the herd and, this time of year, while they are finishing off the last of the grass on the range, we supplement with salt and protein. These boys were very happy about their delivery yesterday. 💕
