If you read page 3 this month (and I know many of you did), we’ve had an update from the Northlake Public Library: “The chicks are in their new homes and they’re getting so big,” according to librarian Marion Olea. Salem, Duck, Oreo, Torchic, Lil Peep, Lighting McNugget and Macaroni are making new friends and they’re proud to be the first installment of our Love Your Library spotlights!

THEY NEED US NOW. Our drop locations are pivotal places in the community—and Al & Andy’s Family Restaurant, 9724 W. Irving in Schiller Park, is one of them. I saw their post on Facebook this morning—in a world of junk and fast food, there aren’t many places serving up great food like Al and Andy’s so let’s rally behind them.

“Small businesses are struggling to stay open. We have been a staple in the Schiller Park community for many years. Pete, the current owner, has been here for 28 years. So many people tell us they can’t find small, intimate diners like ours. Please help support your local businesses. We ask our loyal customers to please come out and help. We ask others to come out and give us a try! We really need the help of our community to keep us going.”

If you haven’t already heard about it on social media or WGN-TV, the 18th annual Wounded Warrior Project Soldier Ride starts TODAY, Friday, June 12! Wounded veterans, joined by members of local police and fire departments, will pass through several neighboring towns, including River Forest, Forest Park, North Riverside, Riverside, Brookfield and into Brookfield Zoo. The public is encouraged to line the streets, wave flags, and cheer on these brave heroes. The purpose of the ride is to show that a physical activity like cycling can benefit the mind, body and soul of the veterans who protected our freedoms by serving in the military. Soldier Ride is an adaptive cycling program through Wounded Warrior Project that provides a cycling experience to all warriors, regardless of their injury level. Also, on SATURDAY, JUNE 13, the Warriors will ride through the Village of Rosemont, beginning at Rosemont Fire Station No. 1 (5800 N. River Road) at 9:30 am and will finish their ride at the Donald E. Stephens Athletic Complex (6101 Ruby Street) with a softball game against local fire and police at approximately 1 pm.
