Gilmer County Library

Gilmer County sits in one of Georgia's highest-risk areas for radon — an invisible, odorless gas found in the granite-rich soil under North Georgia homes. It's the second-leading cause of lung cancer in the U.S., yet most homeowners have never tested for it.

Join us to learn what radon is, how it gets into your home, its health effects, and how to test for and mitigate it. This session is presented by Rebecca Cantrell, MPH, Radon Educator with the UGA Radon Program.

Good news: you don't have to wait for the class to start testing! Through a partnership between the UGA Extension and the Georgia Public Library Service, free electronic radon monitors are now available for checkout at all Georgia public libraries with a library card.

This program is free and open to the public, no registration necessary.

Our Fall Seed & Plant Swap is less than two weeks away! Join fellow gardeners to exchange seeds, cuttings, starts, and growing tips. Bring any extras to share and take home new varieties to try. We'll have some cool-season veggie starts up for grabs, including purple cauliflower, butternut squash, and cabbage. Hopefully we'll have some houseplant cuttings too!
