“ You, The Night ,… The Music “
In case you’re wondering …
The First Jazz gig I ever did was with Pepper Adams .
It was a pivotal moment in my life and audio career .
You can hear him play this song on the Chet Baker Album “ Chet “
Chet became one of my Jazz Heroes , who sadly passed away several months ahead of a Jazz Festival I was looking forward to having the opportunity to work with him …
Enjoy .

Good Beautiful Sunny Morning!
"Come along with me down into the world of seeing"
Here is Carpet of the Sun, the painting © 2017, another interpretation of a very special song that I have been singing with Renaissance for close to 55 years. I don’t think there has been a tour where it wasn’t performed, purely because the audience loved it so much, and at most concerts, the fans joined in with the singing. Always an amazing feeling for any band to experience that connection. I remember back in 1973, watching the orchestra pouring into De Lane Lea Recording Studios, where most of our classic albums were recorded. We had the backing tracks down and I had added a guide vocal. I was standing and listening with John Tout, our masterful keyboardist, as Michael Dunford’s guitar started the beginning of Carpet of the Sun. It sounded great! But then came the real magic, as the orchestra joined in, followed by my guide vocal singing Betty Thatcher’s unique, beautiful words. John and I started crying… we were the most emotional and couldn’t hold it back. Wonderful memories of Jon Camp and his Rickenbacker Bass and Terry Sullivan on Drums and Percussion on this unforgettable day. We were on the threshold of a musical journey that would take us, Renaissance, to the USA and around the globe, and we became known as one of the pioneers in progressive rock music (thanks to Jim McCarty and Keith Relf of the Yardbirds, who originally formed the band. Many of you know the history.
So in 2016 after a UK tour, Rave Tesar (our MD, keyboardist and record producer) and myself had a meeting with Ian Maclay in London, he was the managing director for the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. Ian had wanted to meet up to discuss Renaissance performing with the RPO again. We were very excited at the idea, but after discussing all the instruments that would be needed, then filming had to be added in, the list went on.. There was also the rental of the Albert Hall or Cadogan Hall (the latter being the new home of the RPO). So in the end it was just all too much to take on. Then Rave said to me, "let’s put our own orchestra together". He brought in the musicians and we contacted our agent, Wayne Forte. He loved the idea, and the Renaissance Chamber Orchestra was born! In 2017 we toured the U.S and the highlight was performing at the Keswick Theatre, Glenside, PA with our own orchestra! That’s when I decided to create a painting of each song to enlarge and display behind the orchestra! We filmed a DVD called ‘A Symphonic Journey' released on Cherry Red Records. I have included a youtube video of Carpet of the Sun in this post, as it has the painting in the background, this original painting is now for sale on my new website: https://anniehaslam.com
Lots of Love, Light and Color,
