2 mamas-to-be. I’d have bet you $200 they’d have calved 2 weeks ago. But here they are. Concerned only about the next mouthful of hay. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Here’s mine. Calves sleeping in the tall grass. I can’t describe what I felt when I looked out. A smile in my heart.

This mama is Crazy. But she’s also a good mama. And she takes care of anyone who asks nicely. And her calves are sweet,
so there’s that.

We’ve been Team No Tag. I like the aesthetic and we’ve had enough variation in calves that I haven’t needed it.

This year most our calves are Highpark. 😳 Across the field they look The Same. Right now I tell them apart by walking across the field and seeing them scamper to their mamas. 😆 There’s a few differences — only one bull, one with red tips, one with dun tips.

But the rest are … copy paste heifers. I even suspect they’re all chondro.

So this year for identification and record keeping, we’re tagging. I got an xTool laser etcher that I’m dialing in settings, and as soon as I decide names we’re gonna get after it.
