“Stay The Night” would’ve been a completely different song without the influence of The Mavericks and the legendary Raul Malo

From my earliest memories in music, The Mavericks shaped my entire musical landscape. When I first started playing out with my brother , we were constantly covering “Oh What a Crying Shame” and “All You Ever Do Is Bring Me Down.”

Raul’s solo records—“Today,” “After Hours,” “Lucky One”—were on repeat in my home, the soundtrack to countless late nights (and more than a few bottles of wine).

So when I wrote my original “Stay The Night,” I already heard Raul and The Mavericks in my head. Their influence is woven into every note, and I’ll always be grateful for that.

Raul Malo’s music, voice, and spirit will live on in every singer he inspired—including me.

Sending my love, prayers, and deepest condolences to Betty and the entire Malo family.
