A word from Mike:
Dear Mission Flight family & friends,
We are occasionally called to trust God during unexpected crises. In April, our ministry partner, Buen Pastor Hospital in San Quintín, Mexico—where our biannual April and September optical clinics are located—received notification of new, strict federal standards that must be met within 120 days. They are in now dire need to finish upgrading the surgical suites to remain open.
The hospital originally followed a 10-year development plan with approved permits. However, when those permits came up for renewal, they were denied, and a set of more stringent federal requirements was imposed. An appeal filed through Mexico City was also denied.
On April 9th, Dr. Jairo (MF lead ophthalmologist) and I met with the medical director, Dr. Rita Gonzalez, in response to her urgent plea for help. MissionFlight is committed to standing with Dr. Rita and Buen Pastor Hospital as they continue to serve the impoverished in San Quintín.
In the love of Christ,
Mike Gabelman

Patient Story - San Quintín Eye Clinic
Anna is 63 years old and found her way to our clinic after a family member told her about the work being done here. She recently underwent surgery to remove a cataract from her right eye, a procedure that has changed what her future looks like.
For Anna, the most significant change is that she will finally be able to drive again. Reclaiming that part of her life means regaining the freedom to move through the world on her own terms.
She felt the impact of the clinic beyond just the medical care, noting the way the staff interacted with everyone who walked through the doors. “They treat their patients with kindness here,” Anna said. “They have a big heart.”
Filled with gratitude, she wanted to give thanks to God and the entire team for the care she received. As she prepared to head home, she asked to send a hug to everyone who came to help.

So many smiling faces at our dental clinic this weekend for the Huichol people in the remote mountains of Central Mexico! We see so many kids at these clinics who are in severe pain often in need of multiple extractions. Many families travel several hours on foot to receive care at our clinics, often it being their first ever dental visit, even for adults.
The team is traveling home today, please pray for safe travels! Support future Huichol clinics and join us on future trips at missionflight.org

The May team is on the ground in the village, setting up for this weekend’s dental clinic for the Huichol people!
This clinic serves those in need from the indigenous Huichol people group in Guadalupe-Ocotan. This village is geographically located in the isolated mountains of Central Mexico. We gladly serve anyone that comes to our clinic completely free of charge or obligation of any kind. We serve upon the invitation of the village leaders and are honored to be their guests and to be a part of their efforts to serve those in great need within their community. We also coordinate with local health officials and serve together as one team to bring hope, help, and healing.
Please pray for an impactful clinic! 🙌

Patient Story - San Quintín Eye Clinic
At 78 years old, Maria came to our clinic with her daughter after seeing a post about our services on Facebook. For the last year and a half, Maria has watched her health decline, and the loss of her vision has been a major part of that struggle. Because of a cataract in her right eye, she reached a point where she was no longer able to cook for herself or manage her own home.
The impact of the surgery was felt deeply by both Maria and her family. Maria shared her gratitude simply, saying, “Thank you to all your team for coming to help us.”
Her daughter also spoke about the difficulty they faced before finding the clinic, noting how many others in their community are suffering from the same issues. “Thank you for coming,” she said. “There is a big need for optical and cataract removals in this area.” For this family, the surgery was not just a medical procedure, but a necessary response to a long-standing need for help.

Patient Story - San Quintín Eye Clinic
At 74 years old, Adelmo lived in a world where he could barely see. The cataracts and growths on his eyes had taken away his ability to do almost everything, leaving him unable to drive or move through his day with any confidence. After a lifetime of hard work, he was left waiting in a blur of shadows.
Adelmo was a fisherman his whole life, with decades of harsh sun exposure contributing to his blindness. He could only see ever so slightly through advanced cataracts on each eye and a pterigium. He had one cataract and the pterygium successfully removed last year at our clinic, regaining partial sight! He returned to us this past April clinic to have the other cataract removed.
He came to us in desperate need of help, but also because he believed in the mission behind the medicine. For Adelmo, the skill of the surgeons was inseparable from their faith. He told us, “I know God is here in this clinic. When the doctors don’t have faith, or do it for the wrong reasons, things go wrong.”
After his surgeries were completed this April, the transformation was evident. He was so grateful to be able to see his family, drive, and live life again to the fullest. He has regained his independence and can participate in every part of his life again.
Adelmo left us with a simple, heavy gratitude: “Thank you to everyone who comes here to help.” He is no longer just a patient who cannot see; he is a man who has been given his life back.
