Breast to chin contact is essential for triggering the gape reflex which causes your baby to open wide when they get to the breast. If your baby struggles to have a wide open mouth when you’re trying to latch, give this trick a try!

You may need to pump a little longer with your wearable compared to your primary pump in order to get the same output.

One of the questions I get most frequently is how do I know when to switch sides when I’m breastfeeding?

Unfortunately, there’s been a resurgence of the bad advice to nurse for 15 minutes per side.

You don’t need to watch the clock to make sure your baby is breastfeeding well. Watch your baby.

Look for clues that it’s time to switch such as long pauses between suck burst, falling asleep, or unlatching. Those are cues to go ahead and switch sides.

if your baby is extra sleepy, you can do a couple of breast compressions to help make the milk easier for them to get before switching sides. It’s also OK to switch them back-and-forth multiple times because each time you switch you get a little mini letdown that helps them stay engaged after the breast and can help them take in more milk.
