This is why it's so important to close before you doze! A Central Whidbey family lost their home to a devastating fire this week. The blaze occurred early Sunday morning in a neighborhood south of Coupeville. Everyone made it out safely. Though the home was lost, a powerful example was left behind of why it’s so important to close your doors before going to bed! Even thin interior doors can significantly slow fire spread and buy time. During a fire, the temperature of a room with a closed door can remain less than 100 degrees while one with an open door can exceed 1000 degrees and become lethally toxic, according to the Fire Safety Research Institute! Please always remember to close before you doze!

Yesterday, our department organized a mass casualty training that simulated an accident between a car vs a school bus. During this training we got to practice critical skills like stabilizing and securing the vehicles, performing triage, caring for and extricating critical patients, and creating a landing zone for a helicopter. We want to thank Prairietown fire department, Meadowbrook fire department, Hamel Fire Department, Dorsey Fire Department, Alton Memorial, Arch Rescue Flight, and our actors for the day! This training wouldn’t be possible without them!

On Saturday September 20th from 8am-12pm Holiday Dam road will be closed from Overlook to Cedar for an auto accident training. In this training we will be simulating multi-vehicle accident. We will have multiple departments involved including ARCH. ARCH will be landing their helicopter in the area. This training will allow us to train in a real life scenario. We appreciate your patience and cooperation with this event.
