See whales in the wild on Puget Sound Express's half-day whale watching tours in Seattle/Edmonds Few people know these waters like we do.

Three generations of our family have helped visitors have life-changing experiences with some of the most majestic creatures on the planet. We’re blessed to live in what’s been called “the American Serengeti,” with some of the highest concentration of whales and dolphins and sea life anywhere in the world — including our totem species, the orca. Our experience and dedication makes it possible for

We ❤️ birds! While most of our tours are geared toward whale watching, did you know we also offer options for bird enthusiasts? This weekend, you can find us at the Pilchuck Audubon Society’s annual Puget Sound Bird Fest, where we will have a table (we’ll be located inside!) and will be conducting a fully booked Puget Sound Bird Fest cruise!

If you missed out on the PSBF cruise but are still interested in hopping on a tour catered to birders, fret not! We offer Puffin Tours from our Seattle (Edmonds) and Port Townsend locations throughout the summer! These tours are collaborative efforts with our friends from the Port Townsend Marine Science Center (ptmarinescictr), Dungeness River Nature Center (dungenessrivernaturecenter), and Birds Connect Seattle (birdsconnectsea).

Puffin tours set sail from Port Townsend on June 6, 13, 20, 27 | July: 6, 13, 20, 27 | August: 1, 8, 15, 22, 29 | September: 4

Puffin tours set sail from Seattle (Edmonds) on June 9, 16, 23, 30 | July 14, 28 | August 11, 25 | September 1

And just like that, May is over! We had a great month: setting sail for the season from Port Angeles, launching our Full-Day Tour out of Seattle (Edmonds), and enjoying countless wildlife sightings across all three locations! We’re welcoming June with some of our favorite passenger photos — and even one piece of PSE-inspired art — from last month’s trips.

Want to get in on the action? Tours operate daily from Seattle (Edmonds), Port Townsend, and Port Angeles! For more information or to book, visit our website: https://www.pugetsoundexpress.com/ or give the office a call at 360-385-5288.

It’s a bird! It’s a plane! No, it’s the T65As 🫍

On May 26, passengers and crew aboard the Swiftsure from Edmonds were treated to an aerial spectacle from members of the T65A pod of Bigg’s orcas. Little sis T65A6 Callisto (born in 2018) started the action for the day, breaching out of the water multiple times in a row before joining up with big brother T65A3 Amir for some synchronized tail-slapping action. At this point, Amir seemed to decide it was time to show Callisto how it was done! He breached over 20 times while we were on scene. We feel so lucky to have witnessed this show of socialization!

T65A2 Ooxjaa! On May 17 our Edmonds and Port Townsend Half-day tours caught up with the T65A and T64B families on patrol just north of the Hood Canal bridge. 22 year-old Ooxjaa has developed into an impressive male orca. On this day, he was somewhat on his own while the collected families were grouped farther across the channel. Plenty of seals and birds on-tap as well!

Happy Mother’s Day to all of the moms and mother figures out there!

This Mother’s Day, we’re excited that one of our most famous mothers has made her way back into the Salish Sea — Big Mama (BCY0324) is back! After the outlawing of whaling, Big Mama was one of the first humpbacks to return to our area, marking the start of what we fondly refer to as the “humpback comeback,” and has since returned nearly every year, often with a calf in tow. Big Mama isn’t just a mother, though; she’s also a grandmother and a great-grandmother! In fact, over 20 humpbacks can trace their lineage directly to Big Mama 🐋

Tomorrow, we’re saying “Good Morning, America!” If you saw our Story yesterday, you may have noticed that we hosted a film crew aboard the Swiftsure… Well, we’re excited to announce that it was a production team from Good Morning America! Premiering tomorrow at 7am PST, you can tune in to a live broadcast from a Washington State Ferries boat, which also includes a segment filmed with us! We’re so excited to have been selected to showcase Puget Sound Express and the Hanke family’s 41-year legacy, while also highlighting the wonderful waters that we call home!

P.S., we understand if 7am is an early start — don’t worry, we’ll also share a recorded version after the fact for night owls and overseas friends!
