Meet the convict tree frog 'Boana calcarata'

This species of frog gets this common name because of its black and white prison stripes on its stomach and thighs.

Sometimes getting the correct ID on a frog can be hard so, using markings like these on their legs or looking at the shape of the eyes, snout or fingers can really help tell most frogs apart!

Our property has an abundance of Ecuadorian climbing salamanders 'Bolitoglossa ecuatoriana'

Having a healthy population of salamanders in areas of the amazon, highlights the health of the forest. As salamanders are lungless and breath through their skin, they need the cleanest and purest of air.

For those wondering what 'Bolitoglossa' stands for... it comes from the Latin word boletus, meaning “mushroom” and the Greek word glossa, meaning “tongue"

With our conservational efforts here, these incredible amphibians will have a safe haven to call home for the foreseeable. However, habitat loss is the biggest threat to this species!

We are just a speck in this galaxy, but even as small as we are, we need to do what we can to protect our planet!

This galaxy winged butterfly is a reminder to do take a step back and think about how crucial our world is and everything that calls it home!

Scorpion under UV light!

Scorpions, along with other arthropods and insects, have an outer layer called a “cuticle.” and within their outer layer, they have whats called “hyaline layer.” The hyaline layer is what reacts to UV light, such as black light or moonlight, and causes the scorpion’s body to glow.

The truth is, we just don’t know why scorpions glow under a black light. What do you think the reason is?
