Stranded by the Sea is a local yarn store, a source for finished yarns, spinning supplies, social knitting and spinning, and education. We believe in promoting natural fibers and wool, and avoiding synthetic, acrylic, and chemically-treated fibers, both for ecological and artisan purposes. We strive to educate consumers about preserving and protecting the waterways and marine life from synthetic fibers and their manufacture, both globally and here in the Puget Sound and Salish Sea, and about the many benefits of natural wool - doing our part to preserve the oceans. Our classes, workshops, and social activities include knitting, crochet, spinning, and felting from beginner to more advanced skills, from kids to adults. We have weekly fiber social groups, group classes, knit-along projects, and special skills classes, including fair isle techniques, double knitting, lace work, socks, and more. Check our calendar. We have our own line of custom made stitch markers, sock blockers, and mitten blockers, as well as own line of hand-dyed yarns and spinning fibers, including Angora fiber from our own “fluffle” of English Angora rabbits. We usually have at least one of our bunny mascots visiting in the shop – Feel free to stop by for a snuggle!

Knitting Class: Better Fitting Sweaters

In this two-part class, students will learn how to choose the right pattern, size, and yarn to match you expectations, find proper body measurements, "read" pattern schematics, use gauge sweaters, measuring as you go, adjustments to make, and tricks for better finishing.
Leave confidence to successfully finish a great fitting sweater!

Class: Illusion Knitting
Illusion or shadow knitting appears as simple stripes when viewed straight-on, but reveals a hidden image when viewed from an angle.
It is easy to learn and there are many great patterns trending now.

It's Labor Day Weekend, so we are closed and off on our sailboat for a little end of summer R&R. Anchored in one of our favorite bays near Thor the donkey and casting on a sample for our next Knit Along, the Carbeth by Kate Davies in Jamiesons of Shetland Heather Aran. I added a little Scottish thistle inspired slipped stitch colorwork to the body of my cardigan because these colors were perfect. Sweater knitting makes me happy. Love it!
Our Carbeth KAL starts Oct 15th.

These fruit baskets are perfect for everything from picking berries to carrying your pie to the party. Handwoven in Ghana they will last a lifetime of berry picking!

These Ghana fruit baskets are also great for protecting you while picking. You can use the basket to push away the brambles to get at the berries underneath and avoid getting snagged by the nasty thorns. Perfect pie is coming up!
These fruit baskets from Ghana arr the best for berry picking! Makes it so easy to collect your harvest and holds your favorite tools. Just pop the basket under the berry clusters and everything is easy to gently drop in.

These are in lovely squishy chunky Lana Grande from Cascade Yarns and in three different color choices.
We have a gaze of raccoons in the shop already!
Remember all proceeds from the sale of the knitting pattern will be donated to the PAWS (WA) Wildlife Rehab Center
in Washington State that specializes in rehabilitating sick, injured and orphaned wildlife, restoring them to full health, and returning them as functioning members of their wild population. Thank you to everyone that has already supported this effort!

Learn How to Crochet the classic Granny Square - a quick, beginner-friendly project. Students will learn to make a small foundation ring, then working clusters of double crochets and chain spaces in continuous rounds. Great for multiple colors!
