🚨 “We’ll figure it out” is not an emergency plan.

It’s easy to put preparedness on tomorrow’s to-do list—until the power goes out, the alarm sounds, or the unexpected becomes your reality.

September is National Preparedness Month, a reminder to prepare for emergencies before we’re facing one.

The numbers show why this conversation matters. A 2026 survey from United Way Worldwide and Verizon found that only 15% of U.S. adults feel very prepared for a natural disaster, and just 16% have created and tested a household emergency plan. (United Way) Among respondents who had experienced a disaster, 68% wished they had done something differently to prepare.

At ISS, we believe preparedness is more than a binder on a shelf. It’s a conversation, a shared responsibility, and a commitment to the people counting on us.

Start with three questions:
✅ Do we know what to do? Review your emergency plans and practice them together.
✅ Do we know how to connect? Keep emergency contacts current and establish where to meet if separated.
✅ Do we have what we need? Check emergency supplies and account for the specific needs of the people who depend on you.

Bring those conversations to your next safety meeting—and your dinner table. Don’t assume your crew knows the plan or that your family remembers it. Talk it through.

Being prepared isn’t about expecting the worst. It’s about caring enough to plan ahead.

On Thursday, September 17, ISS President Brent Knight, CSP made an early morning drive to a project in Eastern Oregon to visit Cory Grimmer, CSP, CHST, one of our long-standing safety consultants.

The day included a site visit, a job walk, and some much-needed time to catch up and connect. Cory exemplifies the quality of service ISS is known for and the kind of safety leadership we are proud to have representing our team.

For us, getting out in the field is about more than seeing the work firsthand. It’s about staying connected to our people, listening to their experiences, and recognizing the difference they make every day.

Three days in Savannah brought together more than 550 safety professionals for fresh ideas, meaningful connections, and important conversations about how we can continue moving workplace safety forward.

A major highlight of the Georgia Safety Conference was seeing Dale Goss, MBA, MPH, CSP, and Nicole Ivers, CSP, CIH, CMIOSH, ** present **“Rewriting the Rules of Risk.”** Their session encouraged attendees to challenge traditional approaches and consider how modern risk management and safety leadership can create stronger, more effective outcomes.

Beyond the presentation, Dale connected with clients, industry partners, and safety professionals from across the region. The strong exhibitor participation also offered an impressive look at emerging technologies and created promising opportunities for future partnerships. Many of the most valuable conversations continued beyond the conference sessions, reinforcing the importance of bringing our safety community together.

**Kim Green of Georgia Power** also delivered an incredible opening-day keynote that set an inspiring tone for the event.

🚨 The inspection is over. The auditors have left. Now what?
That’s often when the real work begins.

Intuitive Safety Solutions (ISS) is proud to share that Jacob Zollinger, CSP, Chief Operating Officer at ISS, will join Emily Ernstsen, ASP, of i3DMFG to present at the 2026 Central Oregon Occupational Safety & Health Conference, September 28–29 in Bend, Oregon.

Their session:
“An Audit – Gotcha! So, What Happens Next?”
will move beyond simply preparing for an inspection and focus on what safety leaders should do after one occurs.

From responding to Oregon OSHA citations and managing corrective actions to strengthening CAPA programs and turning inspection findings into meaningful organizational improvements, Jacob and Emily will share practical strategies for transforming audits from reactive fire drills into opportunities for continuous improvement.

The presentation also represents something bigger: the longstanding collaboration between the ASSP Broken Top Chapter and the Central Oregon Occupational Safety and Health Association (COSHA). That partnership continues to bring safety professionals together to share knowledge, strengthen connections, and advance safety throughout Central Oregon.

Strong safety starts with clear expectations before the work begins. 👷‍♂️🦺

On a project in Michigan, Intuitive Safety Solutions (ISS) Safety Consultant Kendric Williams recently led a toolbox talk focused on trench and excavation safety.

The team reviewed key practices including:
• Keeping excavated material at least 2 feet back from the trench edge
• Maintaining safe entrances and exits within 25 feet of workers
• Avoiding vibration-producing work while personnel are inside the trench
• Staying clear of operating equipment and maintaining awareness of the work zone

Toolbox talks like these help reinforce the details that matter most—keeping crews informed, aware, and focused on going home safely at the end of the day.
