( ENG ) 🇬🇧 “The brief was to move away from the codes of the traditional post-production studio, often dark, enclosed and highly technical,” recalls ‘Kat Bell, who co-founded at argyle design studio with her husband Semajwerd. “Instead, we wanted an environment that felt open, light-filled and residential.”

Mission accomplished. The new LA headquarters of Church® studio, a creative studio specialising in video editing and post-production, occupies a former 1960s industrial structure.

The couple kept the concrete block walls, exposed beams and raw structural grid, then layered in generous doses of Italian and Brazilian modernism: cognac leather, walnut, chrome, sculptural seating and vintage furniture, alongside pieces by Ettore Sottsass, Carlo De Carli and Pierre Paulin.

Somewhere between "2001: A Space Odyssey" and a caffeine-fuelled collector’s home, the studio gleefully blurs the line between workplace and domestic interior.

( ENG ) 🇬🇧 OF AIR AND LIGHT
Built between 1959 and 1961, the Esherick House is one of nine residences designed in Pennsylvania by Louis Kahn (1901–1974), a leading figure of American modernism. Now listed on the National Register of Historic Places, this concrete composition—remarkably bioclimatic ahead of its time—is located in the Chestnut Hill neighbourhood, north of Philadelphia.

An American architect of Estonian origin, Kahn transformed architecture through his poetic approach to light, materials, and geometric volumes. His landmark works—including the Salk Institute, the National Parliament House, and the Kimbell Art Museum—combine monumentality with a profound sense of spirituality.

Today, the house belongs to Paul Savidge and Dan Macey, who were immediately captivated by both its architecture and the garden bordering the neighbouring public park.

( ENG ) 🇬🇧 We’ve said it before, and we’ll say it again: design and music share more creative connections than meets the eye at Sony Music France clearly got the memo. The label has just moved into a new 7,000-square-metre² headquarters in Paris’s 11th arrondissement, entirely designed by architecture studio Sowen.

Once an electrical substation, the building now houses offices, a canteen, three immersive listening rooms and around ten recording studios - including a philharmonic one to come in 2027. A nod to Sony Music’s Japanese roots comes in the form of a tatami-covered meeting room, where shoes are very much left at the door.

Not open to the public, but some spaces may occasionally host weekend pop-ups, giving artists a stage to turn a release into an event. And they’re well worth the detour.
