Tedโ€™s book challenges the way we think about youth sports, player development, creativity, free play, and what it really means to help young athletes grow. Drawing from decades of coaching and his work with Joy of the People, ๐™๐™๐™š ๐™๐™–๐™ก๐™š๐™ฃ๐™ฉ ๐™๐™๐™ž๐™š๐™› makes a powerful case for giving the game back to kids.

Congratulations, Ted โ€” and thank you to everyone who has supported the book!

Is the United States becoming like Germany in the 1930s? Yes and no. โ€ข Minnesota Reformer 03/31/2026

Weโ€™re honored to share an essay from the Minnesota Reformer that also appears in ICE OUT: MN Writers Rising Up.

Steve Mayer examines Operation Metro Surge through a historical lens, challenging readers to think seriously about propaganda, intimidation, civil liberties, and the responsibilities of citizenship in a democracy. It is bold, timely, and deeply in keeping with the mission of ICE OUT.

Consider reading and reviewing these titles on Goodreads, or Amazon.com if youโ€™re not yet a CE author.

Our titles were well received during awards seasonโ€”wins and nominations across several categoriesโ€”and we showed up in the real world, too: book fairs, conversations and hand-to-hand bookselling, including RAINTAXIโ€™s wonderfully successful Twin Cities Book Festival at its smart new location in the Saint Paul Union Depot. We were proud to sponsor the event, share tables with Afton Press, and watch our attending authors sell a lot of books and have a great time doing so. We also gave away 500 free booksโ€”because sometimes the best marketing is a good book in someoneโ€™s hands.

We canceled our holiday party due to a snowstorm, but we will try to host a gathering in the new year where authorsโ€”new & establishedโ€”and vendors can rub shoulders in person.

Our publishing modelโ€”launched in 2014, the first of its kind at the timeโ€”continues to go from strength to strength in an ever-changing (and often frustrating) publishing climate.

2026:
Weโ€™ll attend the London Book Fair, March 10-12 to present selected titles to foreign publishers, and launch the first novel in a high-octane trilogy by teenage Lithuanian/British author Adrijus Kveda.
Our books will also be represented throughout the year at rights shows in New York, Beijing, Frankfurt, and Guadalajara.

And, as promised, weโ€™re undertaking a complete rebuild of our websiteโ€”state-of-the-art, with the explicit goal of giving our authors more visibility and hopefully sell more books.

We already have over 20 new titles slated for 2026, so if you have a new project in the works, please contact us soon. Weโ€™re expanding our publishing program, and weโ€™d like to consider your next book for inclusion. Soft deadline: January 31.

Our offices will be closed on December 24-26, and January 1-2.
On behalf of Gary, Josh, Blake, Georgia, Emily, Rick and Susan, I wish you all the most pleasant of seasonโ€™s greetings, and hereโ€™s hoping that everyone involved with the Calumet Editions enterprise prospers in the new year!

Warmly,
Ian Graham Leask
