Strengthening the Foundations of Learning!

Did anyone else grow up celebrating March 4th as “March Forth” day?
When my boys were little, our neighbor had all the kids grab pots and pans and march down the street in a joyful little parade.
It stuck with me.
This year the idea of marching forward feels especially meaningful as I continue healing and return to working with my students. I wrote a short blog post about it today. . https://wix.to/xT2A176
March Forth! When my boys were little, there was a family of four who lived down the street. The mom was wonderfully quirky in the best possible way, and she introduced our neighborhood to the magic of “March 4th.”Each year on the 4th of March, her family invited all the neighborhood kids to “March Forth.....

The last couple of weeks slowed everything down in a way I didn’t expect. I’m recovering from a serious car accident and learning, very personally, how much healing depends on safety, regulation, and support before strength or forward movement is even possible.
What keeps standing out to me is how familiar this feels.
We often ask children to produce, perform, or try harder when their systems are overwhelmed. But learning, like healing, doesn’t begin with effort. It begins when the brain and body feel safe enough to do their job.
This is the lens I bring to my work with families and educators. We don’t rush progress. We build foundations so progress can actually last.
I’m grateful to be healing, and I’m grateful to be back here sharing this work.
If this perspective resonates, you're in the right place.

The last two weeks have slowed my world down in ways I didn’t expect. In the middle of healing from a serious car accident, I’ve been reminded that progress doesn’t come from pushing harder, but from safety, regulation, and support. This reflection connects what my body is teaching me right now with what I see every day in kids who are struggling to learn. Sharing in case it resonates. Read more:
Before Strength Comes Safety: What Healing and Learning Both Require It’s definitely not glamorous. And boring does not even begin to describe the days. Still, I am making it through with baby steps and the steady support of my family, friends, and community. It has been two weeks since the head on collision that landed me here. We were hit straight on by a drunk dr...

This is the shift that changes everything.
When we understand development, we stop blaming kids for what their nervous systems aren't ready to do yet.
I'm Jessie, and I help teachers and families rethink learning through development and movement.

This isn't about lowering expectations.
It's about meeting the brain where it is and giving it what it needs to grow.
Hi, I'm Jessie! I help teachers and families understand learning through a brain-body, developmental lens. Glad you're here ⭐️

Academics skills don't develop in isolation.
They grow out of a nervous system that feels organized, regulated, and ready.

This is where so many families and teachers get stuck.
We look for motivation, behavior plans, or more practice, when the real gap lives underneath the academics.
