Harford Executive Cassilly Appoints BangTam Miller to Fill School Board Vacancy

Harford County Executive Bob Cassilly has appointed BangTam Miller to fill a vacancy on the school board.

A small business owner and founder and president of the nonprofit 755 Alliance, Inc., Ms. Miller is retired from Harford County Public Schools after a 26-year career, having served as a teacher, assistant principal, and administrator in the school system’s Office of Accountability and Department of Human Resources. She holds a masters’ degree in curriculum and instruction from McDaniel College.

“Bangtam is a successful business owner who has volunteered selflessly through her nonprofit to enhance the quality of life in our community,” County Executive Cassilly said. “Her strong business background, integrity, leadership skills and her deep knowledge of the school system will be an asset to our school board.”

The county executive’s appointments to the school board must be approved by a majority of the Harford County Council. The council recently rejected two qualified appointees, leaving a vacancy at a critical time when the board is choosing a new superintendent to lead the system for the next four years.

“I am disappointed that Council President Vincenti has led the effort to reject two of my prior well-qualified appointees to appease union leaders, making it unnecessarily difficult to get qualified community members to volunteer for public service,” County Executive Cassilly said. “I would like to thank BangTam for her courage in stepping up and I encourage the council to confirm this highly qualified candidate without delay.”
