Well, that’s it… what an incredible journey. With the 2026 FIFA World Cup at MetLife Stadium now complete, we’d like to share a small glimpse into what our members experienced throughout Games 1–8.

Our firefighters were tasked with a wide variety of responsibilities, including monitoring pyrotechnics, flares, and smoke devices, assisting our partner agencies with mister tanks to help fans beat the heat, and helping keep our K-9 partners and mounted units cool during long operational periods. We also responded to several incidents that were handled quickly.

One of the most unique assignments was standing by for the arrival of the President of the United States. It was an incredible opportunity to witness the planning, coordination, and teamwork that goes into an operation of that magnitude.

From the opening match to the Final, our members proudly represented the Fire Department with professionalism, dedication, and teamwork. We are honored to have played a role in ensuring a safe and successful tournament for the thousands of fans, visitors, and staff who came through the Meadowlands. NYNJ Stadium.

Thank you to all of our mutual aid partners, public safety agencies, event staff, and everyone who worked behind the scenes. It truly was a once-in-a-lifetime experience, and one we’ll never forget.

Well… it’s over.

After months of planning, preparation, training, and countless hours of hard work, the 2026 FIFA World Cup has come to an end.

We want to extend our sincere gratitude to all of our mutual aid partners, as well as our local, county, state, and federal agencies. Your professionalism, teamwork, and unwavering support helped make this an incredible success. Large scale events like this are only possible because of the partnerships we’ve built together.

Over the coming days, we’ll be sharing memories, photos, and stories from behind the scenes and the front lines. We’ll highlight the experiences of the members who worked these historic events and helped make them safe for everyone.

The FIFA World Cup 2026™ Final is Sunday, July 19. Start your matchday early to help ensure a smooth arrival at NYNJ Stadium.

Matchday Timeline
9:30 a.m. – Official NYNJ Stadium Shuttle service begins
10:30 a.m. – NJ TRANSIT service begins
11:00 a.m. – Stadium gates open and the Fan Experience begins
1:30 p.m. – Be in your seat for the Closing Ceremony
3:00 p.m. – Kickoff

The Final is a public transportation-first event. Purchase your official NYNJ Stadium Shuttle and NJ TRANSIT tickets in advance, allow extra travel time, and follow directions from event staff throughout the day.

The Fire Department was proud to participate in the City of Passaic Police Department Junior Police Academy.

Our firefighters had a great time meeting the recruits, sharing fire safety tips, and giving them a close look at the firetrucks. Thank you for the invitation and for providing such a great opportunity.

Today the members on duty placed our new E-One Metro Series Pumper into service. Over the past few weeks our members attended initial driver and operator training. The timing is prefect as this engine will provide vital fire protection for this sunday’s FIFA World Cup Final Match.
