Last night, our Agency honored our late Deputy Chief Phil Taormina in dedicating our Training Room in his name. DC Taormina passed away four years ago after a valiant battle with cancer. He was not only our Deputy Chief but our Training Coordinator, TAC Officer and most importantly somebody we all considered a friend.

He had a huge part in designing our Training Room during the construction of our new Headquarters. DC Taormina had the wherewithal to design our Training Room in such a way where future generations of Police Officers, both from our Agency and around the State, would have a space with the most current, up to date technology available.

Last night was a full circle moment as his memory is now etched into the fabric of our Police Department.

Thank you to Chief Rivelli and the Committee who took the lead in fulfilling this Memorial to our late Deputy Chief.

And thank you to Rutherford Police Department Chief Russo and Wallington NJ Police Department Chief Kluska for being in attendance.

Today, the East Rutherford Police welcomed our newest member, "Chief for a Day" Matteo Sanchez.

This morning, Chief Sanchez was picked up at his house by Chief Rivelli, Deputy Chief Berlinski, Detective Sergeant and School Resource Officer Felten, members of our Motor Unit and other members of our Department. He was provided an es**rt to Headquarters by our Motor Unit and was promptly sworn into the rank of Chief by Mayor Jeffrey Lahullier.

After his swearing in, Chief Sanchez was given a tour of Headquarters and shown all the equipment we use on a daily basis. After meeting the Day Shift and conducting a brief roll call, he ensured all Officers' vehicles were in working order and the shift was properly hydrated.

Prior to his arrival at the Bergen County Courthouse, Chief Sanchez was shown where the was going to be played and was told how our Officers will handle the day to day operations on match days with one of the biggest world events happening in our backyard.

Once at the Courthouse, Chief Sanchez met the other Chiefs and took part in a lot of pictures and got an up close look at even more specialized equipment the County utilizes.

Chief Sanchez concluded his tour of duty at The Space, complete with lunch, arcade games and fun for everyone. He was also presented a gift courtesy of the East Rutherford PBA membership.

Thank you again to Sheriff Anthony Cureton and the Bergen County Sheriff's Office for continuing this great program and their continued support of our Agency. Additionally, thank you to Becton Regional High School for their support.

‼️UPCOMING MOSQUITO CONTROL SPRAY ALERT‼️

Near the area of MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford on Wednesday, June 10th, 2026, between the hours of 3:00AM-6:00 AM, Bergen County Mosquito Control will be conducting spray operations in an effort to eliminate active adult mosquitos in the area. Please see the pictures below containing information on the chemicals being utilized. Residents are also strongly encouraged to shut their windows while operations are occurring.

‼️ Hackensack Street

Hackensack Street will be closed between Union Avenue and the Rutherford border due to milling and paving.

‼️ Central Avenue

Central Avenue will be closed between Maple Avenue and Mozart Street due to curbs and sidewalk improvements.

‼️ Locust Lane

Locust Lane near York Street is expected to have sporadic closures throughout the day due to road work being done on York Street.

⚠️ Please follow all posted detours and do not drive around traffic cones or marked police vehicles. Please be patient while traveling these areas.

All roads are scheduled to be reopened by 5pm this evening.
