In 1990, I traveled to Portand to take my NCIDQ exam, as it was not yet available in Idaho. That experience inspired the idea to bring together a group of designers in Boise—Joan Whitacre, Eva Marosvari, Nancy Armstrong, and Lucille Taylor—to explore how we could build a supportive design community.

From those efforts, IDI was formed with a mission to elevate awareness and foster a deeper appreciation for the interior design profession. We also launched the Chair Affair and other industry trade events that continue to thrive today.

Over the years, many individuals have carried this vision forward, tirelessly advocating for licensure in the state of Idaho. It is truly rewarding to see the dedication of those who remained committed and worked so diligently to bring this to fruition. While I haven’t been involved with IDI or ASID in many years and may not know many of you personally, I am deeply grateful to everyone who has worked so hard over the past 36 years to make this a reality.

Time to update photos - thank you Brandi Lynn Photography. Brandi asked what I wanted the most from the photos and I said, at my age it's all about the lighting, my friend! Was a very fun morning.

Melanie and I have been friends for 25 years and collaborators for 12, sharing a studio while running separate companies. We both design high-end residential from the ground up and are often asked if that creates a conflict. It never has. We naturally recognize when a project or builder is a better fit for one of us and freely recommend each other, always with the client’s best interest in mind.

We enthusiastically celebrate each others successes and lean on each others wisdom and counsel when normal project life happens along with a few much needed b* sessions.

We are very similar yet very different that creates some humorous moments. We joke that we have round the clock client care as I often work until 1am and she gets going around 5am. Traveling together is a blast but we negotiate flight times.

This will be my 44th year in the design business and it gets better and better. Grateful I get to share the best years of my career with Melanie. Melanie Power Everett everett_design_llc

It’s with great sadness that our beloved photographer passed away due to a tragic accident. Doug was more than a photographer, he was a dear friend. Our hearts are broken for his family! Doug will brighten heaven with his sense of humor, love and I can only imagine the brilliant beauty he will be overwhelmed by.
