What a Sommelier Learned About The Difference Between Mezcal & Tequila When I took my first sips of mezcal years ago, I thought I knew what was going on in the glass. I'm a sommelier, after all. I was wrong.

Hola friends! It’s Charlie. It’s been almost exactly three years since I said goodbye to those of you who loved and supported Dos Perros for so long. But I’m back! And I want to share with you something I’m really excited about.

If you’re a Mexican food lover, a mezcal enthusiast, or just someone with an itch to travel to cool new places, I am inviting you to join me on a trip to Oaxaca, Mexico.

Oaxaca continues to inspire me every time I return - and I go back often. My wife, Chrissy, and I cannot get enough of the incredible food scene (in my opinion, one of the best in the world), the amazing varieties of mezcal you can’t get in the states, and the artistry found in every aspect of the culture there. From hand-thrown clay bowls filled with mole, to the naturally dyed, hand-woven textiles, to the street art on every corner, Oaxaca is a feast for the senses.

With Chrissy, who is an amazing travel planner and artist in her own right, we’ve started The Oaxaca Travel Collective, a company offering small-group trips that connect like-minded adventurers to authentic, local Oaxaca experiences. We just kicked things off this week and already have two trips posted for early next year: a week-long intro to Oaxaca city and countryside (The Essential Oaxaca) and a 6-day mezcal intensive itinerary especially for true lovers of this intensely expressive spirit.

You’ll travel with both of us, and we’ll personally introduce you to our favorite restaurants (there are two Michelin-starred spots there now), bars, art galleries and exclusive tasting rooms and excursions. Check out our site for all the info. www.theoaxacatravelcollective.com

This is it, y'all! Our last day! 😭 Come get the best margarita in town one last time while you enjoy your favorite dish. You may even get a chance to see our founder, Charlie Deal, if you're lucky.

Thanks, Durham! It's been a pleasure getting to serve the downtown community for 13 years. All of us here are going to miss this place just as much as y'all, but we are looking forward to whatever the future may bring.

The Dos Perros Family series is not yet over y’all!! Meet Dennis and Tracey, our gracious upstair neighbors. These are their DOS PERROS, Izzy and Henry. Thank you for repping our brand all this time with the puppies sweet presence. We will miss you. Once again, we will be closing August 14th, come get in your final goodbyes and make a t-shirt as keepsake.

let us help you get over the Wednesday blues with our Blue Tropic Margarita: Lunazul reposado tequila, Peach Schnapps, Blue Curaco, Orange Liqueur, passionfruit nectar, freshly squeezed orange and lime juice, simple. though Dos Perros legacy is ending, which is sad and makes us blue…when one door closes another will open. come celebrate the final days with us. we open all week at 5PM!

Thank you to everyone for the outpouring of love following yesterday's announcement. I'll elaborate a bit on the circumstances.

A few years ago, I was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease. Thus far, the symptoms are mild, but I have had to adjust what my roles are in the restaurants. Further, it has caused me to put some things into perspective and look to maximize my "fun" time while the gettin's good. And, for all I know, the gettin' will be good for a long time to come. But I can't be sure, so I'm just looking to simplify my life.

As such, it simply didn't make much sense for me to commit to another lease. That's really the extent of it. So, "the next chapter" is almost certainly not another restaurant. Rather, it will just be more time relaxing and enjoying myself. And I've still got Juju, so it's not like I'm retiring... yet.

shout out Saturday: thank you sweet Lorna for providing us with fresh mint. now we can provide the community with hibiscus mojitos, mango mojitos, passionfruit mojitos, tamarind mojitos??, guava mojitos??, heck we even got nojitos for all our zero proof friends. in the same thread of community, did you know we provide with our orange and grapefruit rinds so that they can transform them to beautiful candied treats?? lately I’ve come to recognize that the gift that keeps on giving is a sense of community
