Welcome, Class of 2041!
We were delighted to host a group of very young library visitors earlier this week from the Little School at Duke (one of two onsite childcare facilities at Duke University).
They really enjoyed our exhibits (especially the medical curiosities in the David M. Rubenstein Rare Book & Manuscript Library Trent History of Medicine Room), browsing the newest publications by Duke faculty, and marveling at the compact shelves that move when you push a button!
Everyone took home some library stickers and a button they made with our button-maker. If only every tour group we got was this cute! Thanks to the future bookworms at The Little School of Hillsborough and Duke. We hope they come back to see us soon!
Library jobs = the best jobs.
Ever wonder how we digitize historical analog formats? This is jazz trumpet virtuoso Dizzy Gillespie playing at the dedication ceremony of the Biddle Music Building 50 years ago. Originally recorded on 7-inch reel-to-reel, the audio is still crystal clear.
Listen to that!

Friendly reminder that we're operating on a delayed schedule tomorrow, opening at 12 noon. The Perk in von der Heyden Pavilion will be closed all day, so plan to get your caffeine fix at another Duke Dining location that day! Sorry for any inconvenience.

Spring Breakthrough 2024: Exploring the Crystal Coast at Duke's Marine Lab.
This week 11 undergrads, one librarian, and two grad students spent their spring break learning about the history, science, and people of Beaufort, NC, and its surrounding communities. While on their adventures, they had several animal encounters: dolphins, wild horses, crabs, sea turtles, jellyfish, sting ray, and (no joke) a pet squirrel.
Spring Breakthrough is a unique Duke experience offering undergraduates the chance to explore new ideas and interests in a fun and grade-free way, led by members of the Duke community.
Thanks to Jodi Psoter, Librarian for Marine Sciences and Head of the Pearse Memorial Library at Duke University Marine Lab, for the pic!

One of the best parts of working in a library: the fun office supplies. These are actual stamps used by the David M. Rubenstein Rare Book & Manuscript Library to process and organize new collections before they’re available for research. This is just a small fraction of them too. We thought they would make a cool cover image for our latest library magazine, which is out now!
