Happy birthday to our former client, Mark Carver! 🎈

In 2011, Mark was wrongfully convicted of a 2008 murder he did not commit. His conviction was overturned in 2019 on the basis of newly discovered evidence and ineffective assistance of counsel. But he endured three years of GPS monitoring while the State conducted new DNA testing and finally dismissed all charges in 2022.

The Center is a proud recipient of a grant award from the South Carolina Bar Foundation for the 2026-2027 grant cycle. April is Second Chance Month! This is a time to raise awareness about the difficulties of reentry for millions of Americans. Typical reentry programs are not tailored to the experiences of someone who has been imprisoned for a crime they did not commit. We are working to help exonerees receive the resources and support they need after release from prison.

The two Joseph Sledge Houses of Healing were built in collaboration with to provide a living space and reentry services for exonerees. We are so excited to begin hosting exonerees at this very special place.
