Happy birthday to our former client, Mark Carver! 🎈
In 2011, Mark was wrongfully convicted of a 2008 murder he did not commit. His conviction was overturned in 2019 on the basis of newly discovered evidence and ineffective assistance of counsel. But he endured three years of GPS monitoring while the State conducted new DNA testing and finally dismissed all charges in 2022.
We hope you enjoy this birthday, Mark! To learn more about Mark’s incredible story or make a donation in his honor, visit www.nccai.org.

Funds will be used to continue the Center's expanded mission to identify and correct wrongful convictions in South Carolina. There is much work to do in South Carolina, and we appreciate the South Carolina Bar Foundation’s commitment to our work and its citizens. Thank you!

Happy World DNA Day! 🧬
Today, we celebrate the completion of the Human Genome Project in 2003 and the discovery of the double helix in 1953. DNA testing is crucial in proving factual innocence and furthering our mission of identifying and investigating these claims. Our clients rely on all advances in science to fight for the truth.

April is Second Chance Month! This is a time to raise awareness about the difficulties of reentry for millions of Americans. Typical reentry programs are not tailored to the experiences of someone who has been imprisoned for a crime they did not commit. We are working to help exonerees receive the resources and support they need after release from prison.
The two Joseph Sledge Houses of Healing were built in collaboration with to provide a living space and reentry services for exonerees. We are so excited to begin hosting exonerees at this very special place.
Support our efforts by heading to nccai.org and raising awareness in your own communities! 💫
