Engine 9 got to hang out with Beamer - the kitten they rescued from a BMW back in January!

Our firefighters always appreciate seeing the happy ending to their hard work 💪

We often stress the importance of having smoke alarms in your home - but every home should have carbon monoxide alarms, as well!

They call carbon monoxide "The Invisible Killer" because it's a colorless, odorless gas that can be lethal if inhaled.

Many standard smoke alarms check for both, so it’s important to know if your family is covered. Take some time today to make sure your home has CO alarms and that they're working.

And remember, never use a generator or grill indoors!

Last night we responded to an apartment fire on Leon Street.

An aggressive attack was utilized to get the fire under control, and firefighters rescued one victim from the home with life-threatening injuries.

This was a terrific response and strong work from the members of B-Shift!

Earlier this afternoon we responded to a house fire in the 1500 block of Valley Run.

The back of two homes and a shed were on fire, and firefighters were able to quickly bring it under control.

Due to the second house and the heat conditions today, the call was upgraded from our normal response to a second alarm.

There were no injures and the cause of the fire is under investigation.

"Duke in the Driver's Seat"

Our historic steam engine made an appearance as the DFD's float in the 1935 Duke Homecoming Parade 🏉

This photo was taken in front of Wallace Wade Stadium before Duke's game against Tennessee - which the Blue Devils won 19-6!

Have you checked your smoke alarm this month?

They should be checked every month to best ensure your home’s safety.

Working smoke alarms more than double you and your family’s chances of surviving a house fire! 🔥🔥
