While the engraving on powder coated enclosures didn’t cut all the way through, it sure is precise and sparked lots of ideas about other applications for elaborate pattern designs. It will certainly be more noticeable on unpainted pedal enclosures, and GREAT for custom designs on anodized aluminum pickguards, cavity covers, pickup covers and more. #stewmac #shopbot #cncmachine #cncengraving

Throwing it way back to the first ever project I completed using a @shopbottools CNC, ~15 years ago. I used the ShopBot, with assistance/instruction from then NCSU College of Design shop manager Jim Dean, to make a prototype out of cheap plywood to check the ergonomics of my chair design. The ShopBot also helped me make a mold for the bent lamination seat/back assembly. This project ended at a “level 2” prototype which was made of SYP construction-grade lumber and cheap birch bending ply. This project, and my time at NCSU in general, inspired years of deeper exploration into ShopBot/digital fabrication. #shopbot30

This is one of the earliest projects I cut out on my ShopBot Desktop…some simple signage for the very first library makerspace I started! It was cheap acrylic from a local big box store, but I have fond memories of making this…and being greeted every morning by something I’d made myself! ShopBot is celebrating their 30th anniversary, and invited their fans to share 30 posts about their tools. Since my Desktop was the first tool I purchased for my home workshop, I was more than happy to dig through my camera roll to find some making memories!
