Duke University Men's Rowing
Founded in 1978, Duke Men's Rowing is a highly competitive club sport that races in major regattas a Duke Men's Rowing rows out of the Bertha K.
Bergman Memorial Boathouse, and shares the facility with the women's team. The three bay boathouse was built in 1979 and plans for construction of a new facility within the next few years are underway. The boathouse is on Lake Michie in Bahama, NC, about a 20 minute drive from campus. The lake serves as a reservoir for the city of Durham, and when the water is at it's highest, there is over 6000 meters of rowable water. Lake Michie is ideal for training for head races and has a nearly straight 2000 meter stretch for sprints training. On campus we now have our own erg room in Card Gym. Access to showers and locker rooms is available. Adjacent to Card Gym is the Wilson Center; you can find the Men's Crew office and the weight room used by the team in the Wilson Center. Men's Rowing at Duke operates under the Department of Intramurals, Sports Clubs & Recreation. We receive minimal funding from the school and rely on fundraising and donations from parents and alumni to support our operating costs. We also depend heavily on dedicated volunteers from the school and community for coaching. The team was founded in 1978 and has steadily grown in both numbers and strength since then. We race at many major regattas all along the east coast in the fall and spring.

🥁🥁🥁 “You earn your trophies at practice. You just pick them up at competitions.”
Over the course of its history, DCR has had a lot of proud moments. In 1978, DCR sparked the founding of Duke Sports Clubs. In 1992, DCR alumni medaled at the Summer Rowing Olympics in a coxed pair. Over the years DCR has traveled across the US for competitions and training. DCR alumni continue to be incredible long after they part with the university.
But those big wins aren’t all that DCR celebrates. Most times, it’s what everyone else doesn’t see. It’s all the 5 am alarms. Washing the boats in the icy winter. The good 2Ks. The bad 2Ks. All the calluses and blisters and sweat and the rain.
DCR went coed in 2020, and today we mark a new achievement with our women placing at one of the largest regattas in the South. This medal was a long time coming.
So let’s celebrate our Women’s 4+ for showing up for the small wins and arriving 3rd in SIRAs 2026 A Finals!!! 🥉🎉🎉
