Some days, the world feels heavy.
But your light is still there. Maybe quieter. Maybe harder to see. But still there.
Don’t let the darkness convince you otherwise. 💜

If you have a dog or a cat, you probably understand this without us having to explain it.
THEY ARE FAMILY!!
Recently, we were helping a domestic violence survivor who had been staying in an emergency shelter for a little over a week. When her stay ended, we started looking for somewhere else she could go.
There was one problem.
She had an emotional support dog.
We called and searched, trying to find a safe place that would take them both. We couldn’t find one.
WE WANT YOU TO REALLY THINK ABOUT THAT FOR A MINUTE.
Imagine finally being ready to leave an abusive situation and then finding out that getting to safety could mean leaving your pet behind.
COULD YOU DO IT?
For many survivors, the answer is no. And sometimes that means staying somewhere they know isn’t safe.
We have to do better.
Shining Light In Darkness wants to help make sure survivors with pets have somewhere safe to go together.
If this resonates with you, please help us. Text the word DONATE to 1-877-629-0767.
No one should have to choose between getting to safety and leaving family behind.
Please share this. Someone in your circle may be in a position to help us create the solution.

One of our favorite things about Flo is that she never makes helping people feel like a job.
She has this way of making people feel comfortable almost immediately. Whether it's someone we've known for years or someone we're meeting for the first time, she has a gift for making people feel like they belong.
This picture reminds us that some of the most important work we do doesn't happen behind a desk. It happens in conversations. It happens when people feel safe enough to open up. It happens when someone realizes they're not being judged, they're simply being heard.
In our line of work, we meet people on some of the hardest days of their lives. Before they need resources, many of them just need someone willing to sit with them, listen, and remind them that they matter.
That costs nothing, but it can change everything.
We're grateful to work alongside people like Flo who show up with compassion every single day. The world could use a few more people like that.
Who has been that person for you?
If you or someone you know needs support after experiencing domestic violence, sexual assault, or human trafficking, we're here. You don't have to face it alone.

We all must take action.
Domestic violence groups fear survivor services could disappear without warning A new rule change would allow agencies to terminate federal grants for political reasons — without a reason or appeal.

If we had a chance to sit down over coffee, I'd ask you to look beyond our budget.
I'd ask you to look at the survivor who had nowhere else to turn. The late-night phone call. The child who finally felt safe. The family that found hope again.
That's what your investment makes possible.
We may be a small organization, but the impact reaches far beyond our size.
If you're looking to create lasting change, I'd love the opportunity to show you what's possible when you invest in hope and healing.
Let's start a conversation. If your foundation, company, or family is looking to make a meaningful difference, send us a message or visit our website to learn how we can create lasting impact together.

Can we take a minute to brag on two people?
Ashaletta and Jewelon, thank you.
You two did so much of the heavy lifting that most people will never know about. While everyone else was enjoying the Oyster Roast, you were making sure things got done, solving problems, and helping everything run smoothly without asking for any recognition.
That's the kind of people you are.
And Jewel, we honestly tried to get a picture of you, but you were moving so fast all night we don't think you stood still for more than five seconds! 😂
We just want you both to know that we noticed. We appreciate you. And this event would not have been the same without you.
Thank you for giving your time, your energy, and your hearts to Shining Light In Darkness. We're grateful to have you on this journey with us.
