SMT
“SMT intelligently harnesses and creatively applies technology to enrich the live sports and entertainment experience."
For over 30 years, SMT’s reputation has been built on delivering innovative technologies to live sports and entertainment broadcasts and events. In 1985, SMT brought the first electronic scoreboard to tennis for the Nabisco Grand Prix, and in 1988 developed the first real-time scoring and wireless data delivery service for the PGA TOUR (replacing standard walkie-talkie communication). Games 1 and 2 down ✅🏒
Now, the Stanley Cup Final shifts to Vegas for Games 3 and 4 before returning to Raleigh for Game 5.
SMT technicians are stationed at both venues, setting up and calibrating our tracking system, verifying player and puck positions, and ensuring every detail is fine-tuned before every game.
Even with the series in Vegas, the action continues at Lenovo Center with road game watch parties, where fans can follow every play through our PPT-enhanced SPRITES projected onto the ice, synchronized with the live broadcast shown on the jumbotron. Stay tuned! 🙌

On to the Stanley Cup Finals 🏒
SMT teams have been hard at work, creating a seamless, data-rich viewing experience for fans watching at home, at watch parties, and at the venues.
Our puck and player tracking system captures millions of data points, powering stats and live graphics like pointers and trails that have become a staple in the coverage.
From our remote studios in Durham and Jacksonville, SMT is also delivering the official scoring, timing, and analytics tools, building replay packages, and providing technical support to the NHL and its broadcast partners every game. 🙌

An iconic view 🎾🇫🇷
Wherever tennis’ biggest events are, we’re there. Proud to be partnering with TNT Sports again to provide broadcast graphic solutions in their second year covering Roland-Garros.
Who's spending their weekend watching tennis? 🙋
A dramatic, record-breaking race 🏁
History was made at the 2026 Indy 500 as Felix Rosenqvist edged David Malukas by just 0.0233 seconds, marking the closest finish in Indy 500 history.
As millions tuned into FOX Sports and thousands packed the stands at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, we were proud to be at the heart of the action, providing everything from tracking, real-time telemetry, timing-and-scoring crawls, talent prompters, and data-driven graphics that helped explain strategy, performance, and race dynamics for this iconic race.
We were also honored to help deliver the special Lap 18 tribute to Kyle Busch, recognizing his signature #18.
Sunday’s race capped off a demanding three-week run for our team in Indianapolis, and now they're already back in action for this weekend's Detroit GP. Good luck to all!
The 2026 Oscar Mayer Wienie 500 is a great example of how our technology can be customized for any event.
For the second annual race at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, we delivered a custom leaderboard and pointer package that helped viewers ketchup with all six Wienermobiles as they raced for the title of “Top Dog.” 😎
In the event’s first live TV broadcast, we partnered with FOX Sports to serve up an entertaining, easy-to-follow viewing experience.
Relish the highlights! 🌭🏁⬇️
Debut of SMT’s on-track virtual graphics at the 2026 Indy 500 🏁
Placed directly onto the surface, these graphics appear as part of the track, allowing cars to race over them while displaying key information like live lap numbers and flag status.
Combined with our other graphics solutions, such as leaderboards, pointers, and restart zone graphics, they provide another way to keep viewers informed without taking away from the action. 🙌

Sports Video Group caught up with FOX Sports’ Indy 500 Director Mitch Riggin to discuss the technology and storytelling behind this year's coverage, including one feature he’s especially excited about:
"We’re also doing pointer-to-pointer distance on cars, so we can show a closing rate. SMT does a great job with the pointers. I go back and watch old races, and it’s hard to tell what’s going on without them; it gets confusing with lap traffic and alternate strategies."

It's Indy 500 day! 🏁🏁
Following last year’s debut of Ghost Car Live during qualifying coverage, this year we're delivering an expanded suite of real-time graphics, telemetry integrations and broadcast data services designed to elevate the viewing experience.
SMT features you'll see on screen:
✅ Instrumented and optical pointer graphics
✅ Real-time tracking and gap visualization
✅ Virtual lap count and flag-status graphics on the racing surface
✅ Track-map integration and live data services powering FOX Sports graphics
“We worked with our friends at SMT, who have the technology to incorporate this via GPS vectors in the cars. SMT manages that entire system by essentially merging the data on where the car is on the track with the location of the car in front of it, and they’re able to superimpose it. You get that effect of chasing the leader or chasing a different car, in a timed instance.” - Zac Fields, SVP, graphic technology and integration, FOX Sports
