Mary Pat McMahon announced the restructure in Wednesday and Thursday emails. With several key Student Affairs roles vacant amid the University’s strategic realignment and cost-cutting initiatives, McMahon wrote that the time was right to consider changes:

Camille Jackson, director of communications for the Office of Information and Technology, wrote that Duke has seen no indications of a risk to student, faculty or staff’s data or accounts:

A boxing equipment company is suing in Florida federal court, alleging the University unfairly profited from the ‘Put Up Your Dukes’ phrase. The suit seeks to bar Duke from using it and demands damages for any profits from the alleged infringement:
Duke sued for trademark infringement of ‘Put Up Your Dukes’ phrase The lawsuit, filed by a boxing equipment company in a Florida federal court, claims the University unfairly profited off the usage of the phrase. The suit seeks to permanently bar Duke from using it going forward and pay any damages for profits earned through the alleged infringement.
