DeliahBrave
Deliah was diagnosed in August 2019 with ALK+ brain cancer. There currently is no cure.
It's been a crazy road! I can't believe Deliah is headed to high school. She's been through so much & has come so far. Diagnosed right before 2nd grade, headed into 9th. Still fighting! πͺπ₯ππ©·

Deliah had her 8th grade ceremony yesterday. She got so many awards. π€ We then raced to Duke for an MRI and oncology appointment. It was an emotional day for so many reasons!
No pictures with friends
No celebratory ice cream
No goodbye hugs to teachers
No walking the halls one last time
Cancer steals joy.
Cancer sours memories.
Cancer disrupts life in the worst ways.

Go Gray in May! π
Brain Tumor Awareness Month π§ π©Ά
β Pediatric brain tumors are the most common solid tumor in children, with over 4,000 cases diagnosed annually in the US. They are the leading cause of cancer-related death in children aged 0β14
β Brain tumors account for roughly 1 in 4 (25%) of all childhood cancers.
β They are the deadliest childhood cancer, causing more deaths than any other type of cancer in children.
β Childhood brain and other nervous system cancers are slightly more common in boys than girls.
β While new cases of brain tumors in adults are shrinking each year, incidence rates of pediatric brain tumors continue to grow.
β Most children with brain tumors are treated with procedures and treatments developed more than 50 years ago specifically for adults. Very few drugs exist that are approved by the FDA for treatment of children with brain tumors.
β The average pediatric brain tumor survivor experiences 24 chronic health conditions by age 50, the highest of all childhood cancers. This is compared to the general public average of 9.2 chronic health conditions.

Sorry for the lack of updates. It's been an incredibly stressful couple months.
Deliah has her ups and downs. Two weekends ago she was in the hospital getting morphine for pain. This weekend she attended her 8th grade formal and had a lot of fun with her friends.
MRI in 3 weeks to see if the treatment is working on her brain tumor. Deliah has five appointments total with her specialists - will be a long draining trip, as usual.

Thanks for all your prayers. They're definitely needed. Deliah has been back on treatment for 9 days and already retaining fluid. π₯ Thankfully she got botox today, much needed!
Deliah's 14th birthday is this weekend! She got her hair highlighted and looks so much older now. Sooo pretty. π©·β¨

Deliah has been having headaches for about 10 days now and asked me to contact her oncologist. We all decided a STAT MRI was necessary. She had a scan today... her tumor is back.
D has been off treatment for 9 weeks and her tumor grew the fastest it's grown since 2019. π I burst into tears when I read the results and Deliah cried, too. We anticipated regrowth but it'll never, ever get easier. I wish she had a longer break... I hate cancer. I hate the side effects. I hate seeing my child suffer.
Despite the growth, I'm thankful we didn't wait another four weeks for her scheduled scan.
Deliah restarted chemo tonight. π

We haven't received any clarification on the spinal lesions that were found on Deliah's mri in January. Her pain has been consistent and correlates with that area... but we just don't have answers.
I threw a "surprise day" for Deliah last weekend. Her friends met us for brunch and hid behind the table - when she walked in, they popped out from behind it. I made her a sash that said, "I kicked cancers butt." We had a great day celebrating. π₯ππ€ππ
Four weeks til Deliah's birthday.
Six more weeks of her treatment break. She will most likely go back on treatment.

Thank you for the outpouring of love, support and continued prayer! The last couple days have been incredibly overwhelming.
There was unsettling findings on Deliah's whole body MRI. We're still waiting on clarification. Hopefully we hear more this week. π°β€οΈβπ©Ή
