This one from Vol I is re-released! The inspiration was those sassy Ann Peebles tracks on Hi. Lyrics co-written with Bill Cannell. Lots of great bass, guitar and keys work by TA James and David Mozier.

It's guitar day at Jumping Jackson on a new mystery project!
The problem with releasing music a single at a time is figuring out when a project is over. For me the project was Maximum Boom-Boom and I declare it done!
It helps clear the slate and reset. I've got a couple investments in quality to make. I want to try the Ox Box for guitar tone, still a hard thing to get in a home studio. I also plan on upgrading my main vocal mic, looking at the Mojave run condenser. Also some acoustic treatment for my space, which is the first thing I want to start on
Also time for some dedicated woodshedding and to restart the songwriting motor.
Between projects it's really about getting that next 3 percent in all those areas and applying to the next run.
We're also looking outward to expand the folks we collaborate with, and we have some new potential projects we are working on

Here we go with the last track from The Walter Projek! This one is an old school New Orleans R&B number called "I Don't Mind Crying".
This has the original vocal from the demo session we did in Dave Mozier's garage. Sometimes, the tracks you think are throw-away end up having a cool soul to them, and this is the case here. We stripped it all down and built the final track around this vocal!

New music day! We're so proud and happy to share the next track from The Walter Projek, "First Thing Smoking".
This is a trippy New Orleans vibe about Katrina and her aftermath that could also be about the events of the last few weeks. I think we did Walter's great tune justice and put a cool new spin on it.
From the liner notes (full notes after the jump)
“First Thing Smoking” is a completely fresh take on a tune Walter first penned for the early GRS records. The song was inspired by an interview Walter saw with Fats Domino immediately after Katrina, in which the legend said he was going to “catch the first thing smoking” to get back home. Walter wrote:
“Time, not on our side / Time only watch the water rise / Help, not on the way / Deep black water ain’t no place to pray.”
Looking at the state of the world today, those words still hit hard. We added a final verse to bring the Katrina saga into the present day, while keeping Walter’s incredible story at the core.

Here I am running off the next track, the title track, from the record "Maximum Boom-Boom".
Nerding out, I'm using Access Analog here and running the final mix through a Neve Master Bus Transformer. Real analog gear in the right places does do a thing that plugins don't. I mostly reserve it for the lead vocal and the final track.
This one is getting the 'car test' and I hope to drop it for next week! Also, the next track from the Walter Projek, "First Thing Smoking" should be out Wednesday!
A little capture of us putting the mix together for "First Thing Smoking", the next tune to be released from "The Walter Projek". This should be out next Wednesday!
This also is a little chance to nerd out. We're in home studio land. The main DAW is Pro Tools. We run Apollo hardware and utilize mostly UAD and Plugin Alliance (with some FabFilter and Soothe to help matters).
I've also adopted the Softube Console I and a few of their software bits, and this has been one of the recent major upgrades to my own workflow, we can talk about that more later!
