Animas High School
Preparing students for postsecondary success through project-based learning in a small school setting
You could go to any high school. But why not choose one that's built differently?
At Animas High School, students take ownership of their education, launching rockets, solving real energy problems, and learning in a small community that actually sees them.
Choose different. Choose Animas.

Help us spread the word--we currently have waitlists for 10th, 11th and 12th grade, but open seats for rising 9th graders! It's not too late to complete the Fall 2026 Intent to Enroll Form and become an Osprey. https://animashighschool.com/how-to-enroll/
For AHS students, fall semester includes the Socialization and Identity Project, a deep dive into academic analysis of the forces that shape who we are, culminating in a professional Exhibition of Learning where students share personal narratives and hand crafted masks. It's a powerful rite of passage for Ospreys, rooted in our belief that every student deserves to be known and appreciated for who they are and who they want to become.

Did anyone catch the Maria's Bookshop bookmobile at B***o Fest in Mancos yesterday? This project, which a number of Ospreys worked on in electives and Sophomore Inspire Week this spring, has really come to full fruition! Love the exterior mural from talented local artist Jenn Rawling!

When the classroom is a climbing wall, you know you're at a different kind of school. At Animas High School, learning goes beyond textbooks. It's hands-on, joyful, and full of real-world experiences.
Every great school starts with a vision. The story of Animas High School began with a group of local parents and community members who believed students deserved something different, and they built it from the ground up. From no building to a partnership with Fort Lewis College, this is our origin story.

Our Interim School Leadership Team—Carlin, Lori, Christine and Libby—went out on the town tonight to celebrate the lessons and successes of their collaborative leadership this past school year. They’ve been working with incoming Head of School Dreher Robertson this month, and are excited to support his leadership moving forward!

College and career readiness starts long before graduation.
At Animas High School, students build the skills that colleges and employers value most: critical thinking, communication, collaboration, problem solving, and self-advocacy. Through project-based learning, public presentations, internships, and real-world experiences, students learn how to think independently and confidently navigate what comes next.
Our goal isn't just to prepare students for college. It's to prepare them for life.

So fun to have The Powerhouse at the Nest! It's the first week of a summer full of younger kiddos exploring fun, hands-on science in our classrooms, with a couple of AHS students serving as interns, to boot!
Energy isn’t just something you learn about at Animas High School, it’s something you explore, question, and bring to life.
From physics and math to humanities, our sophomore energy project pushes students to think critically about how energy shapes our world and how we use it every day. Through interactive dioramas, presentations, posters, and even creative projects like rap, students turn complex ideas into something real, personal, and powerful.
No two projects look the same, because no two students are the same. That’s the point.
This is what engaged, supported, and challenged learning looks like at Animas High School.
