As we continue to celebrate our 50 years in business, we've been digging through old pictures from the earlier days of Durango Smoke Shop.
These photos were taken in 1977 during one of the pipe smoking contest, the original owner John put on in the Main Mall downtown Durango. The contestants were given 2 matches, then timed to see who could keep their pipe lit the longest. From what we were told; a man close to 90 years old kept his pipe lit for 4 hours. If you smoke a pipe, you know what an accomplishment that is!
This was a much different era, with a lot of character, and a reminder of a community that helped shape our story over the decades.
From the conversations shared around the counter, the table, and the deck to events like these, we're grateful for everyone who's been part of our journey these past 50 years.

For half a century, Durango Smoke Shop has been a proud part of this community.
As we come to the end of International Woman's History Month, we'd like to acknowledge the amazing women behind our business. Although not many, those that have supported us over the years are who we want to recognize and thank!
If anyone knows who this woman is, we would love to identify her. This picture was taken in 1981, at the original location in the main mall.
Here's to 50 years of growth, community, and unforgettable moments- and to the women who continue to inspire us every day.

Come one come all! Tim Cooney has been a staple in this town for over 40 years, so let’s wish him well on his next chapter in his life! He will surely be missed!
