Durango is a popular tourist destination located in the southwestern portion of Colorado where the Animas River flows through the San Juan Mountains. Serving as the terminal for the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad, visitors can take a one day trip to experience a ride on a steam train to an old mining town. US 550 traversing through Durango is called the 'Million Dollar Highway' and gives exquisite views of the San Juan Mountains and Animas River Valley.
