The year goes fast. The impact doesn’t...

A year ago, our club and these host families gained a family member. Today, we said goodbye.

Jed came to Durango from Uganda through the Rotary Youth Exchange program and what started as a hosting commitment turned into something we didn’t have words for until it was over, which happens year after year. We bond with these students, they come a Durango community member, a family member, a extra sibling or kid you never had, a friend, a student, a mentor and a lifelong international bestie to meet up with as the years go on.

He leaves with a piece of this community in him. And honestly? He left a piece of himself here too.

This is why Rotary exists. Not just to connect the world on paper, but to put a kid from Uganda at a dinner table in Colorado and watch something remarkable happen.

If you’ve ever thought about becoming a host family, this is your sign. Talk to us. It’ll change your life as much as it does for your exchange student.

We can’t wait to see what happens in your future, Jed. Thanks for letting us be a small part of it. See you again. 🙏✈️

🏡 Durango, let’s be real -

Could YOU afford your first home in Durango today?

It’s a question affecting our workforce, our families, our businesses, and the future of our community.

This Thursday, the Durango High Noon Rotary Club welcomes HomesFund to discuss the realities of homeownership in Southwest Colorado, the challenges local families face, and the programs helping turn the dream of homeownership into reality.

Because strong communities aren’t just built by houses—they’re built by the people who can afford to call them home.

Speaker Spotlight 📣 Durango Cowboy Poetry Gathering aka Durango Cowboy Gathering

Before podcasts, there were cowboys swapping stories around a campfire.

The Gathering brings together poets, musicians, storytellers, and western enthusiasts from across the country to celebrate the culture and heritage of the American West.

Friday Feature: Melody Warren 🌞

This week we’re spotlighting Melody Warren - proof that some people can manage medical billing, maintain meaningful friendships, support their community, and somehow still radiate “Soak Up the Sun” energy. ☀️

💼 What She Does: Melody is the owner of Aspen Billing, where she contracts with private medical groups to handle revenue cycle management — which basically means she keeps the financial wheels turning while the rest of us pretend we understand medical billing codes.

❤️ What She Cares About: Family, friendships, and making time for meaningful connections, Continuing to grow, learn, and challenge herself personally and professionally; Showing up for her community and contributing in ways that matter

💪 Why She Shows Up to Rotary: “To give back, meet great people, and be involved in projects that make our community stronger.” (Simple. Powerful. Very Rotary.)

🔥 Fun Fact: Melody is adopted and has reconnected with several biological family members, which honestly sounds like the kind of story that deserves its own Netflix documentary.

Now help us settle this:
If your life had a “walk-up song” every time you entered a room… what would it be? 👀🎶

Join our members like Melody every Thursday, you have a seat here - everyone does. You should be here.

HOT TAKE: our speaker tomorrow might literally save your life someday…

Tomorrow, Thursday May 28th, 2026, High Noon Rotary is welcoming Chief Randy Black of Durango Fire & Rescue, the man responsible for running a department who keeps Durango from becoming a cautionary tale...👏

Because if you’ve ever wondered what it really takes to protect a mountain town through wildfire season, extreme weather, and the full spectrum of human decision-making, then this is the lunch for you.

Come hear his story. Ask your burning questions. Pun absolutely intended. 😏

12 Noon | Elks Lodge - Be there or miss the heat.

Anyone is welcome! Join in on the fun, cause as always, you should be here.

🇺🇸 Hey Durango - this Memorial Day, we wanted to take a moment and pause…to say thanks. At Rotary, we talk a lot about service. Today is a reminder of what service at its most profound looks like & how much we owe to those who gave everything.

So before you climb the trails, push off from the river, or venture to the desert to enjoy one last day in this long weekend…take a beat. Say a name out loud if you know one. Thank a vet if you see one. Let our La Plata’s and San Juan’s remind you how much beauty was bought.

Durango sits on land with deep roots - Indigenous, Spanish, pioneer, military. Today feels like a good day to hold all of that. To widen the circle of who we remember. We live in one of the most remarkable places on earth. Today’s a good day to remember we didn’t get here alone:

🤍The soldiers of every World War.
🤍The Korean War veterans - the “Forgotten War,” never forgotten by us.
🤍The Vietnam veterans.
🤍The Gulf War and post-9/11 generation.
🤍The Navajo Code Talkers.
🤍The Buffalo Soldiers.
🤍The Nisei soldiers of the 442nd.
🤍The Women’s Army Corps, WAVES, and WASP pilots.
🤍The Filipino veterans of WWII.
🤍The Puerto Rican 65th Infantry.
🤍The LGBTQ+ service members.
🤍Native American veterans.
🤍Latino and Tejano soldiers.
🤍The immigrant soldiers who fought for citizenship they hadn’t yet been granted.
🤍The medics, engineers, translators, and chaplains.
🤍And all others who have yet to be name.

Thank you.

To our club members who have served, thank you for your service and thank you for the service you give in putting kindness back into the world and our community, through projects, commitment and donations by being in our club.

And, to all who have served and sacrificed - we honor you today and all the days. We’re thankful this Memorial Day for the freedoms we have.

We serve (through kindness) because others sacrificed.
