The Hermosa Cliff Fire is estimated at approximately one acre in size, burning north of Hermosa, CO and west of US 550 on the San Juan National Forest. This remote fire is burning above the Hermosa cliffs and is not currently threatening any values.

Air Attack, a small airplane providing fire oversight, is currently over the fire, and a Type 1 helicopter is en route. The helicopter will be dropping water on the fire this evening to slow the fire spread until firefighters can hike in from the nearest road to extinguish the fire. The fire's cause will be determined when firefighters arrive on scene.

An evening status update will be provided on this page.

🚩🔥 Fire Restrictions are always enacted in the City of Durango. Here are some reminders:

With warm, dry conditions continuing across Southwest Colorado, now is a great time to brush up on what is and isn't allowed within Durango city limits.

🏡 Small, attended campfires and charcoal, gas, and pellet grills are allowed on private property when safety requirements are met.
🏞️ Campfires and grills are not allowed in public parks, open space, trails, or other city-managed lands.
🚫 Fireworks, burn barrels, bonfires, and open burns remain prohibited within city limits.

Whether you're grilling in the backyard or enjoying an evening campfire, please use caution:
✅ Never leave fires or grills unattended
✅ Turn off grills when not in use
✅ Fully extinguish and drown campfires before leaving the area

A little extra care goes a long way in helping prevent wildfires and keeping our community safe. 🌲🚒

⚠️ These restrictions apply within the City of Durango. Restrictions may differ in La Plata County, National Forests, BLM lands, Tribal lands, and other federal or state-managed lands. Always check local regulations before heading out.
