And people will say that the synthetic line is weak. 😬 All kidding aside, if you are going to be using your line for something very repetitive over the same section of the rope like lifting a plow or using it as a suck-down winch, add some abrasion protection. It doesn't matter if you're running synthetic or steel, the line will break down faster with this kind of use. Up-sizing the line in this section to a larger diameter can also help. Yes, it is possible to splice a thicker lead onto a smaller diameter tail with Dyneema. You can also do this with a Loop2Loop connection to make it easy to add just for plow season. A 3rd option, make a thicker diameter shorter length plow line for the winter season that had good abrasion protection over it's entire length. at

Based on the comments, I think we should talk about it again. Dyneema winch lines have LOW stretch, but they still do store energy and can recoil when they break. Elongation at break is still more than 3%. This is a good reminder that we probably don't want a chunk of metal on the end of the winch line. We also need to pay attention to the material used for the straps we are attaching to. We don't want to use nylon for that, polyester has much less stretch. A winch damper over any remaining high mass points in the synthetic rigging isn't a bad idea, but to be the most effective, the pouches need to be filled with as much loose sandy material as possible to make them the most effective. I do have my doubts about the light velcro dampers that are getting thrown over the lines in euro or RFC events really are going to be THAT effective. Bee Safe everyone.

It's just a better way to do this....

The real downside to using an old 4-roller fairlead has always been getting the line trapped under the tabs for the side rollers. It doesn't matter if it's synthetic or steel, this happens. The most common situation for this is when the vehicle slides off the edge of the road and it is leaning side-hill while you are trying to recover yourself. Synthetic line is more susceptible to it because it's more flexible during tension changes. I see the scars of this on many units coming out of the field.

Sounds like a good time to me!

No worst feeling than flying down a dry creek to find your allocated Cliffhanger Wall number and you find something like this waiting for you! 😂🥲

For those who have never witnessed a pull down wall, competitors must use their ground anchors to chip away at the vertical bank until they feel enough dirt has been moved to enable them to winch up it!

Now to make it even harder they need to set the ground anchor and that is used as their winch point. 💪
